There is a slight inaccuracy in the mapping around the cricket /hockey pitch in St Georges, but the route is obvious. If you have time, there are worthwhile diversions , going via Church Aston gives a more pleasant road walk at the start, the monument in Lilleshall is worth the climb, as is the hill to the left in the Granville LNR., but these would make it less direct....

Walk this routeThe first 8.5 miles give very easy navigation , but 8 miles along a tow path, that can be very muddy in places, may not be everyone's ideal. Some of the field paths had clearly been walked and so were easy to follow, most were waymarked....

I would walk it again.It is a safe walk.No access issues....

Bit of everything I thought; (in no particular order) footpaths, woods, water pools, bridges, slight inclines, mud, one stile, historical features. I thought it was a safe accurate route I would happily walk again and recommend to others....

Walk this routeThe route from Shrewsbury as far as Longdon on Tern is 5 star. At Longdon on Tern the route leaves the pavement of the B5063 to head north via the route of the former Shrewsbury Canal. There are pubs, cafes and shops in Shrewsbury and Newport but between them are a pub in Longdon on Tern (16km) and a pub and shop in Edgmond (30km). Transport wise, there are trains and buses in Shrewsbury, buses to Telford and Stafford from Newport but little inbetween except for Rodington where there are buses to Telford and Shrewsbury....

In the methodology of a Slow Way it's a definite 5 for directness and safety (in the road sense rather than the 24x7 as it's not lit). The only thing I thought it might fail on was somewhere to stop but almost miraculously at halfway (10km from in Stafford and 9km from Newport) the old railway reaches a spot where a bridge has been demolished and you have to descend and cross the road at Gnosall Heath, where there is a pub!...
