Help connect Newgale

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Newgale’s Slow Ways.

The first section through Haverfordwest is fairly non eventful walking along pedestrianised areas, or on pavements alongside road. At the town boundary, indicated by a "Welcome to Haverfordwest" style sign, the route forks right along Cuckoo lane on a quiet single track lane to reach Cuckoo lodge. When I walked the route I used the farmers gate to cross a field boundary, despite the presence of waymarking and a metal right of way gate 20 metres to the left. The off road section ends at Sutton Lodge and the road goes into the hamlet and then circles the buildings before exiting the settlement. The next section heading into Nolton Cross involved a gradual climb along the road for about 10 to 15 minutes. At Nolton Cross, this was the first place I could stop for a break, so I visited the Farm Shop on the route. After the refreshments, I followed the road and descended down into Nolton Haven where there is a stunning sandy beach, a pub, toilets and on my walk, a mobile ice cream van. As mentioned in the survey, if you are on wheels, you can avoid this section of the coastpath and follow the road up a steep hill out of Nolton Haven that will eventually lead into Newgale....

There were a number of minor inaccuracies due to the smaller than usual GPS marks plotted on the map, when combined contributed to a further 0.25 miles. The route also had to deviate due to landslips in the area between Nolton Haven and Newgale. NewgHav Two uploaded to reflect theses amendments - although the route is fundamentally the same....

The route leaves Milford Haven via an off road cycle path running alongside Habberston Pill. As you exit the cycle path onto the road you come across Pill Priory. Following this is quiet road walking along grass verges into Tiers Cross. Tiers Cross to Broadway was again road walking on verges, but the road is used as a cut through to Broad Haven. You leave the path at Bromsgrove Farm and take a right up a gentle slope and then take a left onto a grass pathway as you pass a smallholding onto an off road right of way. The quiet road walking takes you via Nolton Cross. This road continues through the sleepy settlement of Nolton and into Nolton Haven. Shortly after the summit the routes goes off road again onto a link right of way to the Welsh National Coast Path....

However unless it’s a national trail (i.e. coast path) there is no chance of this getting resolved any time soon. New route submitted with a diversion and correcting some minor errors where the map differs from the ground....
