Stiles mean not practical except for walkers north of Tregate Bridge, though alternatives exist on quiet lanes for bikes from Tregate Bridge to Skenfrith and from to get out of Monmouth....

There was a lovely sight just after Pencraig as the path opened - a field full of Borage (Photo X). (2) Where the path first approaches the A40 road just after Pencraig, the path is very overgrown - definitely machete season during July, but is only for a couple of hundred metres before it opens out again into the riverside fields....

sections of it are very overgrown (did this walk in June, other times of year this section may require less thoughts along the lines of "should have brought a machete") and a section through woods is very weathered with some clambering over trees needed....

Railway Bridge at Tintern was closed when we walked this in March 2023....

A lot of this route follows the Offas Dyke path, the riverside path along the Wye and also parts of the Wye Valley....

For the moment, follow the eastern side of the River Wye to Brockweir and then rejoin the route....

Walk this route(1) Through the woods from Monmouth along the River Wye - this is definitely the most beautiful section with fantastic woods and cliffs alongside the river. As a side quest, before you get to Biblins suspension bridge, there is a steep walk up through the woods to Little Doward which is a very pretty nature area and a good place to spot deer....

Nice route which I walked from Monmouth to Raglan on a glorious May afternoon....

The sun was blazing, the route was carpeted with bluebells and wild garlic and the cider pit stop at the old ferrie in symonds yat was both welcome and deserved....

Going east to west (Coleford to Monmouth) you will have just 500m of urban walking before passing out of Coleford towards Newland through pastoral countryside. Do not dally in crossing the road at Redbrook (narrow and on a bend in the road), but the next section of path could be classed as difficult before passing Jamie's Farm on the right (look them up online!) and heading upwards and eventually into more bluebell woodland on the way down to Monmouth....
