However, where the canal resumes near Dewsbury and forks at right angles to the river (signposted to Wakefield), the path to the left along the river bank is marked 'No Admittance' and is blocked by a barrier. Someone has kindly cut an opening in the wire barrier so we continued along the route and found no reason for the route to be blocked....

There is a section walking on the road after this but it felt safe enough - the road is relatively wide with good visibility and a grass verge you can step onto if necessary....
