Help connect Metheringham
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Metheringham’s Slow Ways.

This is a good route - I live on the route and regularly use sections of it, rain, shine or snow....
The route follows the Spires & Steeples waymarked footpath almost all the way. It would be possible to avoid by using the level crossing on the High Street and using Tentercroft Street to re-join the route, though it’s a fair diversion. This flat, level and tarmacked route is an easy walk down to Washingborough. The route as marked on the Slow Ways website and gpx file follows a footpath diagonally across a field to cross the railway at a pedestrian crossing. Instead use the road shortly before reaching this point to cross under the tracks, and then follow the footpath alongside the track to re-join the route....
This route predominately follows the Spires & Steeples waymarked footmath, but the route does divert away at some points. At Ruskington take care to spot a slight diversion of the Slow Way route away from the Spires & Steeples route, as it crosses the railway line over a road bridge on Fen Lane (Spires & Steeples crosses it using a footbridge further in the village). There is a more significant diversion between the Slow Way and Spires & Steeples route at the edge of Ruskington which I missed. Having walked through a small poultry farm, the Spires & Steeples route continues along a well-used footpath to the A153, before crossing and joining the River Slea at an established car park and weir. In dryer conditions this route would be absolutely fine, although avoid becoming over-reliant on following the Spires & Steeples signs as I did....
I have not walked this route, but for anyone who does, please be aware that the middle section, through Green Man Woods to Metheringham Lodge, is not a public right of way. Attached below are photos taken from the Metheringham Lodge end showing clear signage advising this is not accessible....
