Help connect Martock
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Martock’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
The other thing I really like about Martock, is that all the footpaths around the village are well maintained, well used and clearly signed. There were plenty of people on the paths closer to Langport, and I found the same to be true when I walked the very similar Lansou route in the winter....

There is no verge, so you have to walk on the lane, and although there is good visibility, it is busier than I'd like for a walk. Then the lane joins the Ash-Tintinhull Road which is unpleasant to walk on. There is a verge, but it's not nice to walk on, and the road is busier than the lane. Although there are some really nice parts of this walk, the road walking spoils it for me....

Helen Gough added Marilc two, a new walk from Martock to Ilchester
Walk this routeThe route closes in more after Kingsbury Episcopi, and becomes rather workaday for the last mile or so into Martock when it crosses some fields grazed by a herd of cobby ponies and uses arable headlands. On the way it briefly skirts a sewage farm (can’t see it from the path but a slight whiff and lots little flies - a less lovely form of insect abundance!) and some huge blank buildings housing an intensive poultry operation (depressing), but it does the job fine and gets you into the village easily, so I didn’t dock a star from the overall rating....
Mockymock
Varied walk and good views north across the levels coming down out of South Petherton....

Closure keeps being extended, rather than works being done to repair the bridge....

I loved walking through the Hamstone villages of Montacute, Stoke-sub-Hamdon and Martock. I walked from Yeovil and the first stretch is on the outskirts of the town along Montacute Road. The second stretch of road walking is between Stoke-sub-Hamdon and Martock along Stoke Road....

Helen Gough added Marsom two, a new walk from Martock to Somerton (South Somerset)
Walk this routeRoute cannot be followed as footpaths are closed across Witcombe Bottom due to a dangerous bridge. Not planned to be open until March 2023. Update- instead of fixing the bridge, the closure has been extended for another 2 years, see pic....
Helen Gough
I walked this route after a long period of dry weather, but there were still some tracks with lots of deep puddles on them....
Helen Gough
Very muddy when I walked it in December of course, but all parts are passable with boots and a disregard for cleanliness. Not suitable for wheels....
Helen Gough
A combination of field, track, path, riverside and some minor roads. Great panoramic views and tree covered avenues....
rodkedward
Absolutely fine route for able body persons, but following the ethos of Slow Ways, this route is not suitable for all....
