Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Marldon’s Slow Ways.

I parked in Ipplepen near the Community Hub (Church) there are parking spots on the main road in Ipplepen. To start you walk through the centre of Ipplepen, there are pavements but not consistently so there will be road walking. Crossing the road you head through the centre of Luscombe Close and pick up another footpath that runs through houses, again signposted. Walking up a narrow country road to Wrigwell you pass some picturesque cottages. Stepping over a gate and meeting a road and crossing over Tanyard Lane, this is the beginning of muddy and deep rutted path which is signposted. Coming to the road you head straight up and turn right at the next turning! Once having followed the the hedge along the field and gone through another gate next to an old stone stile, the path will lead you to Ipplepen Road. The path to Ipplepen Road has roots sticking out of the ground, a couple of gates to go through and a few steps down onto Ipplepen Road. On the home stretch, walking down Ipplepen Road there is a mix of road walking and pavements...

In Round Down Wood on the map the route takes you past the bridge and staying along the right hand side of the river, at the next “fork” it wants you to take the path on the left. There was no obvious way down so we continued on the same path which goes round to the right and eventually leads you back to where the left path would have taken you. This path snakes around and over a small bridge, it is narrow before the bridge but only for a short distance. Across the bridge the path goes over the river and to the left there are steps, and the path is uneven. If you follow the path you’re on and go to the right, you end up where you’re meant to be and carry on the route as normal. Coming out of the woodland you follow a narrow path between houses that leads you to a housing estate which you walk through....

A lovely route through woodlands and then following a road into Torquay. Follow the A3022, (pavements both sides) there are chances to cross over to the right hand side of the road to walk on the promenade overlooking the sea. If you want to walk to the station via Seaway Lane and you are walking from Marldon, it is beneficial to be on the left hand side of the road (side of road furthest away from the sea), cross at The Livermead House sign traffic lights so you don’t have to walk down to the main junction or try to time it correctly to avoid the traffic when crossing the road. There are toilets on the other side of the road opposite Seaway Lane (disabled ones need a key) as well as toilets at Torquay Station....

I agree with everyone else - this is a superb Slow Way!...

Misses out on a 5th star because of some of the walking by roads... otherwise it's another great Slow Way for Devon!...

What a GREAT route. Love this part of the country. I 100% recommend this one....

I should imagine the small path behind Preston Primary school to the west of Torbay Road gets overgrown, but it was fine for us....

A very simple and easy walk! The highlight is the lovely Round Down wood, which I did get deliciously lost in... but quite easy to pick up the trail again....

I found this to be an easy walk to traverse; it was a dry day, but I could imagine it being a little muddy around the woodlands have a wet spell....

The route follows the Totnes to Torbay & John Musgrave Heritage (TT & JMH) Trails, which are well signed. Leaving Marldon on Smallwell Lane, the route follows a field edge footpath just past Hazelwood Farm. If liked, an alternative route would be to continue along Smallwell Lane towards Aptor & take the bridleway Loventor Lane - stone surface - which the route joins south of Butterball Copse....

Rather than crossing and heading towards Newpark Hill plantation, I've always turned left towards Old Gatcombe House....
