Latest Updates
The Manchester/Salford branch leaves to go underneath the famous Meccano Bridge, and down two staircases of three locks, then over the Prestolee Aqueduct which crosses over the River Irwell far below. The Meccano Bridge is on the route but the aqueduct was a small diversion off it. (Route BolFar Two goes over this which is great fun, although that route also uses the aforementioned muddy path.)....

Walk this routeFrom Radcliffe’s bus station a few roads soon brought me to the lovely Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal, with shallow steps down to the towpath....

Walk this routeThis walk was good fun, the views of the river and scenery were lovely. The route was extremely muddy however so dryer weather would be better. We did get a bit lost as the route is slightly inaccurate as it says the bridge is further down, however, it is right at the start so we had to take a detour as there was no bridge to cross, adding and hour to hour route. There are shops along the way and I would say it is rather safe....
