Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Lewisham’s Slow Ways.

A really enjoyable walk through a fascinating part of London. Some particularly amazing views across the city from the hills above Greenwich...

From Lewisham station we follow Station Road east to Lewisham Road, where we cross, go left a short distance and turn half right up the hill. Shooters Hill Road is quite busy, but considerate drivers made it easy to cross....
Hugh Hudson
We leave Catford along Adenmore Road, then head left under the railway bridge and over the Ravensbourne into Ladywell Fields....

Drizzly day but still a good walk even with limited views....
Strider
Good for wheels but gradients over the railway in a spiral foot bridge. Good enjoyable route between these two places....

The beginning and the end of this route are not very interesting; the beginning takes you up Granville Park which is very shaded by trees and the end goes through a 1980s housing development alongside the railway line. The other route Lewbla two takes in more of the Heath and is more open. Of course, the big problem with walks anywhere in this area is that the railway gets in the way!...
Sarah Crofts
It is mostly through parks (photo #2, #3), with few excursions where you have to follow residential roads (photo #4), and ending up at bustly Lewisham (photo #5)....
Derick Rethans
This is a very enjoyable way of walking between Canada Water and Lewisham....
Charles Hedley
If you want to avoid the steps/ramp of the ‘curly’ bridge, you can continue along Malyons Rd instead, this will take you to Ladywell Rd where you can pick up this route....
whlsarah
The steep downhill/ uphill will not be accessible for all....
Lizbiz70
Some nice green areas but a lot of pavements and twist and turns....
Lizbiz70
It links a chain of parks and docks and uses riverside paths and generously landscaped footways through residential areas....
Daisy C
Lovely route, along the river, have occasionally seen a kingfisher there!...
Tom Cairns
I would give the route the full five stars except that frustratingly it doesn't follow the Waterlink Way/cycle route, which is fully signposte....

If you are thinking of using it at night, the Ladywell Fields section is *relatively* busy at night, pretty good sightlines and street lights. I would use it in the evenings....
Daisy C
This route is fine in itself, but it's more fiddly to navigate than it needs to be, the railway underpass is a bit dodgy at night, and it misses out Blackheath Village (quite pretty) and Blackheath (the common) which is (kind-of) off road i.e. fits Slow Ways criteria....
Daisy C
It's a nice walk and Blackheath is lovely, especially when they let the grass grow long....
Daisy C
Greenwich town centre, Greenwich Park and Blackheath common are all very enjoyable....
Daisy C
Leafy suburban streets until you meet the heath then grass with paths and good views all the way to the last slope down into Blackheath....

Coming from Greenwich it looks like there is no easy crossing point for the busy A2 but when you get close you will see a Pelican Crossing to your right. Plenty of greenery on the whole route for central London and obviously no shortage of places to get food and drink at either end plus good transport links....

Good route - it looks a bit indirect on the map but it’s worth the detour to get the views from Blackheath. Worth walking on the grass at Blackheath rather than sticking with the pavement....
Jane Taylor
I enjoyed this route, it’s a straightforward walk across SE London, with a pleasant park at Hilly Fields, where I stopped for a cup of tea at an excellent hill top cafe. The very end of the route at Lewisham could be more accurately drawn, I had to double back to get to a safe crossing point on the main road. This would be my only minor irritation with the route, but I don’t think it warrants making a new option....
Jane Taylor
A fairly short, but easy route to follow through parkland and riverside....
Tim Ryan
An enjoyable, safe and easy to follow route which uses Lewisham Hill and Greenwich Park. Really nice views, with hill climbing involved. Good access....
Tim Ryan
The steps can easily be avoided by continuing along Granville Park, which will take you to the end point in about the same amount of time as the route....
clarefin
I walked this as part of a circular walk combined with Lewbla and Grebla and it was really nice to see so much of the heath. For most of this stretch across the heath there is no pavement (see photos), only a narrow track or gravel - fine for walking, but might be more challenging for wheels. The path in the park is very steep, so you could use The Avenue (parallel) for a slightly gentler incline....
clarefin
After a very unpromising start - busy, major roads and a bus terminus to negotiate, things improved significantly as I walked through quiet back streets and estates, and a series of green spaces, including alongside the Ravensbourne and around Greenland Dock. Plenty of shops and other facilities at either end of the route....

After dark, I would suggest continuing along Linden Grove, turning right onto Ivydale Road and then right again onto Limesford Road to rejoin the route....

From Catford, the first half goes through Ladywell Fields (where you might see Kingfishers and Mandarin Ducks), and the second half is in a residential area....

Starting in Lewisham the first part of the walk up Granville Park and Eliot Park is quite steep, but then it's downhill along footpaths into Blackheath. The second part of the walk into Blackheath is particularly nice....

The suggested route involves following two roads (Wat Tyler and Cade) that do not have pavements....

As noted by a previous reviewer, there are significant sections alongside very busy main roads, in particular between Surrey Quays Station and Folkestone Gardens (Lower Road, Bush Road and Trundleys Road), and the A2 New Cross Road....

Andrew added Canlew two, a new walk from Canada Water to Lewisham
Walk this routeThere is a lot of construction work around Canada Water and the route was blocked by a small diversion shortly after the start, then I found that there is no footpath along the route indicated on Deal Porters Way - the route needs to be changed to follow the other side of the large car park along the edge of Surrey Quays Shopping Centre. There are plenty of public transport options all through the route which passes by Surrey Quays, New Cross, Deptford Bridge and Elverson Road stations....
porcovolente
It was a straightforward route, it mainly follows the Waterlink Way cycle route and so is easily signposted. It just diverges from the cycle route towards Lewisham station (continuing up Algernon Road instead of turning onto Marsala Road); I would recommend that it be changed to follow the cycle route instead, for ease of navigation....

It passes through Hilly Fields which rewards you for the climb with great views, a nice cafe and a children's playground (there are toilets at the cafe)....

There are a couple of quicker diversions now on the route which I guess are where paths have been updated since this route was established, but its very self explanatory and you can see the quicker route in your line of sight....
