At this point the Clarendon Way continues further south towards St Cross, whilst the Kinwin Two route leads down Kilham Lane to busy Romsey Road which it follows into Winchester to join first the Upper High Street and then the attractive pedestrianised High Street leading down to the Guildhall where the route finishes....

Helen Gough added Gratkin one, a new walk from Grateley to King’s Somborne
Walk this routeThe most confusing section is from Teg Down to Badger Farm, where the green markers are still there for the old route, but the OS Map shows the new route which is more circuitous, but definitely nicer....

My wife and I plus dog walked this route on Day 1 of our two day expedition to complete the Clarendon Way, the second half of which I will review on Kinwin One. There is a small amount of road walking at the start, but nothing particularly dangerous, but there are a number of obstacles along the way which mean that this is not a suitable route for wheels, apart from perhaps rough terrain buggies that the rider can get out of and the buggy be lifted over the obstacle. Route finding can be tricky despite this being a long distance path. The biggest deviation is shortly after leaving Pitton - as you climb the hill you will see the marked footpath in the hedge to the left, but this path is actually badly overgrown and practically impassable - what you need to do instead is walk on up the track a further 20 metres and you will see a permissive path to the left which follows the edge of the field and a fence (the original footpath is just the other side of the fence). The path does eventually join the road with a kissing gate and a short flight of steps down....you can walk on the road if you want to avoid this....

Also, a much pleasanter route through the outer suburbs of Winchester is via the 'formal' Clarendon Way route which crosses the A3090 near Pitt and then goes on a marked path through South Winchester Golf Club, into Oliver's Battery and then out across Badger Farm Road on a pedestrian footbridge to re-joing the route shown here in Bushfield....

Walk this routeWe did the reverse of this walk- Winchester to Kings Somborne and it was really easy to follow the route (as getting out of Winchester we had the benefit of local knowledge!) It was fairly muddy in some places, especially coming down from Farley Mount....

Walk this routeThe route itself is probably fine, but it needs redrawing as this just straight lines and does not actually show which way to walk (see uploaded image for example). It is not an accurate depiction of the route, and therefore the distance is way off....

Edensyard added Salkin two, a new walk from Salisbury to King’s Somborne
Walk this routeIt then leaves the Test Way and follows the River Test to Whitchurch. After crossing the River Test at Chilbolton Cow Common, the route crosses the road, turns to the left for a short while, then takes a track on the right to climb to follow the course of the old railway above Wherwell. As it leaves the village it turns north up a track in a valley, then kinks right through the trees, and goes north-east along a treeline, and follows a path along the edge of Harewood Forest. Still following Test Way signs, the path turns off the road on the left, before turning right and dropping across a field and across the B3048 and down into the pretty hamlet of Forton. At the end of Forton the path goes across a field, past the church and school and onto the Plough Inn (which is recommended if you want refreshments!) At this point the route leaves the Test Way, and follows the main road through the village. At Mill Lane the route goes through the high hedge on the left, and out onto open fields, which lead to a bridge over the Test, where you may see trout, herons and maybe a kingfisher. At a junction, the route goes through the hedge on the far side of the road, and follows the field edge over the hill and down once again to the Test....

This is a long route and there aren't many obvious seats/benches, though there are a couple mid-way along the route. You can either take the road route, or detour into the water meadows. Water meadows (intended) route:. That will take you onto the intended path through the water meadows....

It is a nice, mostly off-road trail with some beautiful views and it takes a good route into Winchester avoiding the cars and along the river to the Cathedral....

It follows footpaths through woodlands, forests, fields and goes over some beautiful chalk stream rivers - perfect to cool off along the way. Highly recommend....

Path is mostly wide, gravel/dirt tracks with a few thinner single-track sections. Few short road sections but nothing that felt unsafe. Good transport links to Salisbury and a little corner shop in King's Somborne for a snack if you're walking on to Winchester!...

For the road walking segments, about half had a parallel path I could hop over to (took a little creativity, but it was fun exploring), and the other half was just on the road....
