Walk this route

The route is easy to follow and runs for more than a third of its length on the canal tow path. There are several road crossings, but they are all with the aid of traffic lights or zebra crossings. A lovely route in daylight, but I would be nervous on a dark winter's evening....

From Kings Cross with open squares, market and shops to Angel with shops and market via a peaceful canal side walk and quiet streets. Book shop in a canal barge, Word on the Water, was a gem. Temporary work on a path caused a slight diversion (25/8/23) easy to walk around, see map screenshot....

Our Goodgym group connected to this route from outside Granary Square (including the steps to the Regent's Canal), and following out to Camden Lock and Camden Town Underground station. Our team of local runners from Goodgym Islington (a fitness and volunteering charity) ran this Slow Way on a dark Monday evening in January, with headtorches in tow. mtormey added Kinhig three, a new walk from King's Cross & St Pancras Stations to Highbury & Islington Station

Walk this route

You can't access Regent's Canal as drawn from Stable Street; there's no cut-through from the canal towpath to Bryan Street or from Bryan Street to Copenhagen Street as drawn; there's no path through Lonsdale Square; and the plotting at the north end of Compton Terrace Gardens could be slightly more accurate as well. I've uploaded Kinhig three, which is nearly identical but far more navigable and accurate....

mtormey

Walk this route

Overall, it's an excellent route that nicely weaves its way through quiet neighbourhood streets. The towpath is lovely, as are the number of quiet squares and gardens to pass through along the way. A very nice way to get between these two points and one I'm happy to recommend as part of the network....

The Kings X Granary Sq development was a spectacular start, the canal section was being well used but not crowded, although you do have to be alert to bikes, as always on towpaths. Drops you right into Angel via quiet streets, a very nice route....

Walk this route

I knew that a government body had developed a route between these two stations that didn't use Euston Road, but I could never quite figure it out and follow it using only signs the council had put out. This Slow Ways route fixes that!...

mtormey

Walk this route

This was very easy to follow, generally pleasant and once leaving the canal, used lovely quiet streets. I especially appreciated that the underpass under the railway (just past St Pancras) was clean and well-lit - this made it feel very safe....

Walk this route

I agree with the earlier comments - this is the more direct route, with euskin two being only slightly longer and a lot quieter. But this one does have at least one item of note - the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital. This is named after the first woman to qualify as a doctor in the UK, AND she also became the first female mayor....

Martin McGovern

Walk this route

I agree with the previous reviewer - very pleasant walk on a mix of residential streets and the canal, when then leads on into the new development north of King's Cross. Should be manageable for wheels - a couple of slopes going on and off the canal are the only significant inclines....

David Sanderson

Walk this route

One thing to bear in mind is it's not a 24/7 route: it passes through some gardens that close at dusk; and there is a cut through a car park with a sign saying 'gates open 08.00 - 17.00'. The route passes a couple of green spaces - Queen Square, Brunswick Square Gardens - without going in, but of course they are there to be enjoyed if you want....

Jane Taylor

Walk this route

There were a couple of roads by St Pancras that I was worried about as they were quite busy, but they had clear crossings and felt safe overall....

So much nicer that being jostled along the fume filled main drag between Euston and Kings Cross. It is signed all the way, very easy to follow...

Walk this route

I have always enjoyed walking around this are of London, the area to the north of Kings Cross station is great for cafes restaurants and bars and more and more retail options keep moving into the area. The Regents Canal flows runs through this slow way which is a lovely piece of London to roam, you can also connect through overground to Angel and continue on the toe path all the way to Stratford or Paddington....
