Help connect Iver
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Iver’s Slow Ways.

Berkshire Walker
When the route turns across a railway bridge behind Iver railway station, it is necessary to walk on a pavement next to the Thorney Lane Road rather than on a footpath next to it. The footpath leads to the railway station...
Petr Sadilek
The canal path is what you'd expect (can get muddy, but it's not deep) and has been resurfaced along some of its length....
Chris Attfield
It's much easier to continue along the path by the motorway until it reaches the Slough Road, the walk along the road until you meet where the other path comes out.....

After a short stretch along Iver Lane, the route joins the London LOOP (photo #-#6) and goes along the lovely River Colne (photo #7-#8), with a fair amount of butterflies (photo #3), to finally end up at some residential streets in Uxbridge (photo #10)....
Derick Rethans
After going through the little village of Harmondsworth (photo #2), the walk became actually pleasant (photo #3), even though it started through a graveyard. It was a little muddy going around Saxon Lake (photo #4, #6), but it was quiet and green with a white dusting of fallen blossom (photo #5). After leaving the canal, the walk into Iver is again along a main road (photo #14), as bridge across the canal had collapsed a few years ago....
Derick Rethans
Starting in car swamped Iver you soon get to the Slough End of the Grand Union Canal and from here waterside paths dominate this walk down the Colne Valley. The paths weave under several major roads and Heathrow flight paths, not a quiet walk, there's a constant hum of traffic and roar of jets....
Strider
The towpath wasn't too muddy, nor were the short field sections between the canal and Iver itself....

I don't have a lot to add to the other reviews, but I would like to reiterate - Strider's review mentions a 35cm gap, which I thought couldn't be true - but it is! Thoroughly pleasant, and not too muddy when I did it (December 2022)....

You then follow the road right (no pavement) until you turn left along Thorney Mill Road (U3 bus nearby) over Fray’s River. I walked around the left hand side of the golf course and followed the white rocks, to the right of the Colne Brook, that take you north through the golf course out to a tarmac lane through a gate (this is different to the route taken by the other reviewer (which is a bit further to the west) (This section again feels very remote) and then go left and then right following the Colne Valley Park path signs north through the wooded area along uneven dirt paths and with a number of fallen trees to go under, that then comes out (kissing gate) on the Slough spur of the Grand Union Canal where you then turn left to continue to Iver (this is covered by others) or right to West Drayton....

You reach the village of Colnbrook (buses), walk along Drift Way and then along the High Street until the junction at Budgens where you head left along mill street and then the foot path past the truckers cafe to the A4. Then into the residential Richings Park, as stated this passes the Iver station (Elizabeth line) where I finished, but is a straightforward walk if you continue into Iver....

You then follow the river through woodland, keeping left at each track junction before coming to Cricketfield Road (kissing gate). You then follow the road right (no pavement) until you turn left along Thorney Mill Road (U3 bus nearby) over Fray’s River. I walked around the left hand side of the golf course and followed the white rocks, to the right of the Colne Brook, that take you north through the golf course out to a tarmac lane through a gate (this is different to the route taken by the other reviewer (which is a bit further to the west)....

Leaving the canal close to Iver the path crosses fields before a short section of busy road that cuts Iver in two....
Strider
When you come out of the park there is a little road walking, with light traffic, although they can go a little fast. Once you cross Windsor Road, there are public foot paths which you follow in a big V, but you can also walk along the third leg of the triangle to shorten the route a little. After another road walking section up a hill, you end up on (the very dry) Gerrards Cross Common, and soon at your destination at the station....

I did wonder about the tight access point to the Colne Valley biodiversity site at Stanwell Moor (see photo of brightly painted concrete blocks with narrow gap). Access: steep banks and some steps; narrow uneven footpaths; very narrow gap to enter/leave the Colne Valley biodiversity site at Stanwell Moor....

This route starts at Slough, which isn't known for it's architecture. Luckily, most of this route is along the Slough Arm of the Grand Union Canal, which was a really pleasant walk, albeit it very straight for about 80% of the route....

Jane Taylor added Iversta three, a new walk from Iver to Stanwell Moor
Walk this routeI planned to walk this route, which is all good apart from an access problem at Slough station. There is no access to cross the railway lines (unless with a ticket to travel). I made a different start to the route which goes directly to the canal towpath, and have added to the network as SlouIve Two....

In this case the Slough arm of the Grand Union canal will deliver you from Slough to Iver along a peaceful green corridor, with only minor irritation at either end from the car frantic outside world. A short walk away from Slough station (some of the minor irritation) is the start/end of the Slough canal....

Jane Taylor added Hortive three, a new walk from Horton (Windsor and Maidenhead) to Iver
Walk this routeI turned left to join the Colne Valley Way at Foundry Lane. The lane is used by skip trucks to go to and from a recycling centre - builders’ rubble mostly. I turned left at Thorney Lane and the last 10-15 minutes was a brisk walk along this quite busy road (no other option really) to the meeting point at Iver village....
Jane Taylor
The slough spur of the grand union canel is much more rural than the main canel and is an interesting contrast. Various bits of interesting canel industrial heritage along the way....
Aamwalk
As opposed to crawling under the bridge I continued left along bridal way to slough road which you can follow to Uxbridge and re join the stated route....
Aamwalk
I would add that you can question whether you are allowed to follow the track out of Iver, due to the number of private property and cctv signs along the track, But you can. For most of the route you can easily forget you are on the edge of suburbs....
Aamwalk
Totally recommend - one star off for a couple of unavoidable busy road sections, otherwise everything a Slow Way should be. There’s a short stretch of busy road before plunging back into more green along a golf course. Under the M25 - celebrate leaving London - then up a steep slope to the road, turn left and walk north to Iver. At this point if you want the railway station don’t walk into Iver, turn right and walk south instead....
Jane Taylor
Langley Park is beautiful, but the path marked on the OS map is unwalkable, partly blocked by dead-hedge to preserve the woods, and partly non-existent. Another walk in the road to fields and under the M25, another road then Bulstrode Park. This walk is mostly beautiful woods and countryside with lots to see and do, but is marred by some navigation issues and some uncomfortable road walking/crossing...
Strider
This route quickly takes you out of the town center through a park, to a riverside path behind a pub and houses....
Strider
More steps to a bridge leading to a short road section before a shady path between woods and lakes with barriers for wheeled transport....
Strider
Past some houses the path turns alongside the M25, very pretty but quite noisy. Up the other side there is a lovely riverside walk along a root-strewn path, across a road, then between the river and gardens to the General Elliott pub....
Strider
A really pleasant combination of the Slough Arm of the Grand Union Canal and the Grand Union itself linked up by the Colne Valley Trail....
Slow Ways Darren
The slow way doesn’t stop at the station in Iver so after exploring Iver and the beautiful church we had to walk a little further out of the town to get to the station....
Alison Moore
I haven’t walked this route, but the crossing of the canal just near Iver is inaccurate, and this route is therefore impassable. I’ve uploaded an alternative for Iver two (called Iver three)....
mtormey
It’s a good route, but the last bit from the canal to Iver isn’t accurate or passable. I’ve uploaded a new route option that addresses this....
mtormey
The canal walking is great, but there’s also some really fine woodland walking and you even go over a canal aqueduct, which is pretty cool!...
mtormey
Slough centre is just a short walk from the train station, but you can’t walk through the station building to get there, you have to go around....
mtormey
Lovely walk, with the exception of 30 metres where the footpath ceases to exist and it forces you to crawl under an M25 overpass. Not really recommended if you're a tall person (>1.75m). Great views of the Chilterns after that!...
