Help connect Ipswich
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Ipswich’s Slow Ways.

A very beautiful walk out of Manningtree tracing around the estuary edge with glimpses of the Dedham Vale landscape. All significant road crossings on this route have pelican crossings. Someone commented that finding the start of the route eastbound over Rushmere Common is awkward and I can see why that might be the case as there are a lot of tracks on the ground at this point. However, the majority of what you see is golf related and runs (at this point) around the edge of the common; the path you want is a 1.5m wide track running straight through the gorse bushes aiming just to the left of the water tower you will see in the distance. At this point the route is at the beginning of the Sandling's Path, a long distance path that goes all the way to Southwold, but you'd never know it due to the lack of signage. But as you enter the woodland on the eastern edge of the common the ground gets muddier and less even....
