Connect Ilford with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Ilford to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?
Give a hike!Help connect Ilford
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Ilford’s Slow Ways.

If you have extra time a small diversion into Loxford park is a nice thing to do - looks unprepossessing from the road but has some nice specimen trees and a lake with cafe....

This night be the most direct route but it is along a very busy main road, not enjoyable. I rather detour a bit along quieter streets...

A pleasant route wandering through quiet residential streets, past a few train stops in between, and some green space....

Lots of hustle and bustle alongside a busy car filled road with lots going on. Two is direct with road crossings and street furniture by a busy road for those in a hurry or enjoy shops and cafes....

There always seems to be something to see, but this gradually peters out as you approach The Havering Stone (a boundary stone). The edge of Romford is comparably leafy and this builds up, as do the buildings, to the Brewery (a shopping centre)....

There are two points where there is an element of danger in the road crossings - the worst is Aldborough Road South, where I saw at least one car turning left at speed without indicating....

Lots of residential areas so a bit dull compared to nearby Slow Ways in part, but varied enough to make up for it....

We carry on going as straight as possible through residential streets as far as Woodgrange Road, where we turn left and cross the railway at Forest Gate station, where we cross the road, continue and turn right into Sebert Road, which leads us into the Manor Park cemetery, which is full of interesting monumental masonry....

I particularly enjoyed the meadows in Little Ilford Park. And although it is alongside the N Circular the noise is muffled by trees. I would choose it again over EasIlf 2....

A short walk along pavement (or 15m North on the common) to another cemetery, lots of interesting gravestones....

You can't cross the Greenman Roundabout following a straight line, you can't go through Henry Reynolds Gardens, the gates are locked on the North side, you Can't walk through Bush Wood in a straight line, the path past The Heronry Pond does not go through the woods, the way across and out of Wanstead Park is inaccurate. But if you can find your way, the walk goes through some nice roads and lots of green space....

After a busy road the path goes through quiet streets to trendy Walthamstow Village with few cars. This is followed by a long cycle path past Whipps Cross Hospital between parkland and a busy road....

There is a nice new station followed by a nice pedestrian shopping precinct in Ilford. It's the route you would take anyway if you didn't know that there was a better alternative than the main road between Stratford and Ilford....

For the next one and a half miles, the route is on mostly quiet residential streets, apart from short stretches or crossings of busier roads. The next half mile or so is along quiet residential streets and along the south edge of the Manor Park section of Wanstead Flats. At the east end of the footpath, the route cuts down to the very busy A118 Romford Road, for the last half mile to Ilford station....

Bit eerie at the beginning sandwiched between the cemetery and the abandoned allotments, but worth it for the chance to explore Wanstead park and Hollow pond, and a nice finish through the Walthamstow village area....
mamesjayne
Quiet route, picking up lovely stretches of green in the area. You can also go off the route to explore Hollow Ponds and Wanstead park - both favourite spots of ours in the local area....
Pippa Winstanley
This is a great route given how densely populated/ urban the surrounding area is. A large part is off-road through Wanstead Park and other parts of Epping Forest, which are lovely. The start and finish sections are unavoidably on roads, although most of the way in Walthamstow is on quiet, pleasant streets with plenty of cafe stop opportunities....
