Help connect Hoylake
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Hoylake’s Slow Ways.

Nice, flat walk along the coast with some nice views out to sea....

It follows the coast from West Kirby to the western corner of the Wirral before heading along a straight road into Hoylake....

Any decision to walk the Hoylake to Wallasey route should consider the most reliable way to reach the start....
Brian John Moffett
The long path along the golf course is a little narrow though and - as it is shared between pedestrians and cyclists - it can sometimes cause a little irritation between both parties when it is busy (as during our walk)....

Only blown sand in a couple of sections may impede wheeled users, but they are easily bypassed. Paved roads at either end, close to public transport, and a mostly concrete seawall walk along a sometimes exposed coast. Great to blow the cobwebs away!...

As with many routes moving through rural Wirral, the terrain and multitude of gates and stiles exclude wheeled users. But as a footpath, it's a good one! Through the always pleasant Arrowe Park; lots of fields; the odd wood and even an old RAF base, this starts and ends at areas good for transport, with shops at the Hoylake end, and a pub at Woodchurch....

Lovely, flat route, mostly on wide, pedestrian friendly paving....

A very short and easy Slow Way. Pavement and footpath between two stations....
Hiking Historian
The route is almost completely on tarmac or paved surfaces, with about half road walking and half along a tarmac path. There are very few obstacles so suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Not a very exciting walk though, very little to see along the way....

This route is recommended for all types of walking/wheelchair users on a tarmacadam footway; safe and easily accessible. The pathway adjacent to the rail line (on your left) opens out with the municipal golf course on the right. Emerging from the footpath at Hoylake is the wonderful Art Deco !930's railway station....

We walked this route, from East to West (Woodchurch to Hoylake) on 6th May 2021 after a few showery days....

The route starts off on the road but there’s a footpath slightly set back from the road to start off with. After a section down a residential street you reach West Kirby football club. It was a little confusing about which way to go but look for the footpath sign on the left....

At the Wallasey end, using the Harvester Derby Pool access road rather than continuing North to the sea wall is a quieter route....
