However, once I had reached Mossend and the end of Clydesdale Street the route directs you to follow Garfield Avenue but that isn't possible - the section of the street accessed from Calder Road is quite rough and looks like it hasn't been maintained well and is a dead end - its completely blocked off from the rest of Garfield Avenue....

After crossing the South Calder Water the route joins the Greenlink which was a good path and takes you right to Motherwell town centre and the train station....

Review of Slow Ways Route Airhol 1 (Airdrie to Holytown). The route starts at Airdrie Train Station and zig-zags uphill through residential streets before eventually turning onto a wide and well-surfaced cycle track. The next section is the least enjoyable of the route as it follows this and another main road (Bo’ness Road) through a series of roundabouts to the edge of Holytown. Keeping to the route would have required a steep descent down a grassy bank to the playing field below so is therefore probably best avoided....
