Help connect Holt
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Holt’s Slow Ways.

There were a few obstacles along the way such as a footpath overgrown and inaccessible, meaning I had to find another route around (luckily there was a road just further up that connected). Walking from Swanton to Melton Constable was along a very busy road and found it hard to get up on the side of the verge, out of the way of traffic There was also a field to walk through (public footpath) but did house a herd of cows which was quite unnerving as they all stopped to watch me as they went by....

Overall we enjoyed the picturesque walk from Holt to Sheringham, however we felt it would not be suitable for all. Facilities access - at one of the campsites we walked through, at the National Park and of course Holt & Sheringham itself. Return travel - if you don't fancy the walk back, it was easier enough to get a bus straight back to Holt....

When travelling West from Saxlingham, the better route is to turn leafy at Saxlingham and take the road towards Field Dalling....

The route includes a mixture of public footpaths, restricted byways, bridleways, fields, through national trust parks and walking along the road (both quiet country roads and slightly busier main roads). There were several kissing gates and stiles on the route and one small steep set of stairs needed to access the public footpath/field near Marlpit Road....

This walk has such a great mix of places to walk - fields, country roads, National Parks, woods etc....

We walked this route in the opposite direction, so walking from Alysham to Holt....

Lovely walk through woods, including Sheringham Park; along the coast with a few gradual climbs, before descending into Sheringham. Good shops and transport links at each end, and with the odd shop along the way, with the option of using National Trust facilities in Sheringham Park....

Walk this routeA good route along the coastal path, but the section from Holt to Weybourne is along unpaved country roads and may be dangerous at times....

From here the trail follows a bridleway to the Quag where it turns right onto a much narrower track and ultimately ends up joining the Norfolk Coast Path at Kelling Hard. At Weybourne beach car park the SlowWay turns away from the coast path into Weybourne on a well prepared path. At the windmill, turn left down a byway to rejoin the Norfolk Coast Path at houses near the cliff top. An alternative route to avoid Weybourne is to continue following the Norfolk Coast Path from the car park directly to the houses mentioned above, where there is kissing gate....
