Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Hemyock’s Slow Ways.

Pity that the trees have grown around the Wellington monument blocking the views. I was hoping for a wide view....

But does have one short section on the enclosed path which was full of water, quite deep and surrounded by mud. I suspect that this section, which is short just 3 or 4 meters is usually in this condition - or worse, being in a dark section of enclosed path....

The route between Honiton and Godford Cross is about 2 miles along a busy and fast A road (The A373 toward Cullompton and the M5 intersection) Mostly this is unpaved and without useable grass verges on either side....
Tim Ryan
From Oatens Farm to Combe St Nicholas the route is entirely on quiet hedgerow lined lanes. From Combe St Nicholas the route is more varied using tracks, footpaths and very narrow quiet lanes....

I really enjoyed parts of this walk, but there were also a couple of sections that made me swear loudly (sorry universe). My first problem was at Bolham Farm where I had to walk through a field of cows. I threw my dog over the gate, and jumped over myself, swearing loudly the whole time. I was in a foul mood by now, but immediately after this, the route follows a ridge top walk with really lovely views of rolling green countryside. Parts of this section were tricky without signage through the farms. The best news is that this section is very short, just a few yards and after this there really aren't any serious problems. I really enjoyed walking through Jan Hobbs Nature Reserve, which gave shade and wildlife after several miles of lanes. All in all, it's a good walk, with some really great highlights, just be prepared!...
Helen Gough
Firstly at the Hemyock the route is plotted along field boundaries, not rights of way. Secondly it has a stretch of walking along the A303 where there is no path....

Helen Gough added Hemilm two, a new walk from Hemyock to Ilminster
Walk this routeFrom the Monument to Hemyock the route is often through quiet woodland. When the route opens out the views are brilliant across the Culm Valley. The lanes on the route are quiet, I didn't come across any traffic on them....
Helen Gough
Much of these are quiet, but at the Cullompton end it is mostly on road all the way to Ashill around 5 miles....
Tim Ryan
A little on unpaved but slow roads at Millhayes before a path uphill....
Tim Ryan
A scenic and enjoyable route up and over the Blackdown Hills. Some of the route on the day included a small boggy section and there was a dark and unlit underpass under the M5, fine by daylight....
