Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Helston’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
It is a mix of off-road and country lanes, with the last part following the coast and so having very good signs from the South West Coast Path. Gweek has a good village shop...

I set out with the intention of walking HayHel4 from Hayle to Helston but due to a route diversion due to river bank erosion I had to take the route shown in this slow way. Apart from this diversion, the walk along the river Hayle is great. I hope the eroded bank can be rectified soon, and then HayHel4 will be the optimum route to follow....
everydayduffy
Unfortunately the council have enforced a significant diversion due to bank erosion on the river Hayle....

Hayhel three aims to correct the issues so may be good to start with....

As other reviewers have noted, the section just south of Blue Pool farm is the poor part of this route....

- Problems begin at Kew Skewes farm (at the end of the long track heading west off Drym Road). The right of way continuing west to Pengelly Mill was overgrown, included a a small footbridge with barbed wire on it's handrail, and a fallen tree forcing diversion into an arable field to get around. - The west -> east right of way through a field on the south side of Deveral Farm was unpleasant. - Continuing west, on the south side of Taskus farm was generally ok, apart from a point in the middle, crossing fields on a small scrubby path. - The section along Calais Road heading west towards St Erth Praze is not walker friendly....

Walked this enjoyable route in reverse (Lizard to Helston) on Wednesday 12th October. I wonder whether the route setter knows the Helston area very well, because the route between Poldhu and Helston took me across a couple of fields where the footpath is virtually non-existent. It's hard to grumble too much because I saw two deer on one of the fields, which is the first time I've seen deer this close to Helston!...

I walked this route from Camborne to Helston on an August evening - it has been very dry too. The short section on the B3303 is probably the least pleasant section of the whole walk, althogh there is a wide verge on the left hand side to utilise for most of this stretch. A bonus at the end of the walk was the walk following the River Cober from Lowertown to the outskirts of Helston....
everydayduffy
All the inclines were pretty gentle other than a particularly steep section up from the River Cober in to Helston, but this could potentially be avoided by carrying on down the river to the roundabout near Lidl....

I walked this Slow Way (with the previous reviewer on 19th July) and confirm that there were far too many issues between Troon -> Releath on this route to make it feasible. Some parts involved battling through dense 8ft high vegetation, and other paths appeared non-existent. I have replotted CamHel2 as completely new route and plan to try soon....
everydayduffy
everydayduffy added Camhel two, a new walk from Camborne to Helston
Walk this routeThe majority of footpaths are unusable either because they no longer exist, have been so underused they’ve become impassable or have been blocked by the landowners. The extent of the issues means an entirely new route needs to be plotted....

The route occasionally takes you on the South West Coast Path but mainly runs inland. The route then follows the South West Coast Path till Gunwalloe having past Poldu Cove and then the Gunwalloe Chuch on Church Cove where there is a National Trust Cafe....
Paul Haines
Perhaps the best thing about this route is the relative directness between Marazion and Helston. It approximates the A road between these two points and it has the characteristics of attempting to follow the ancient route (which is now surely the A road) whist maintaining as much directness between the points....

Interestingly, having walked in a direction from Helston to Falmouth, there were more footpath signs better suited to walking from Falmouth!...
Paul Haines
This was an enjoyable slow way, taking a relatively direct route between Falmouth and Helston. A particular highlight was the selection of small, wooded valleys the route passed through....

However the route does include some significant sections of country road without pavement where care is needed....

The route starts at the Prince of Wales pier in Falmouth ending at the Helston information centre. This route took about 5 hours to complete with a lunch break and a snack break and takes you through the centre of Falmouth, Budock Water, Constantine, Gweek and Helston, providing a number of opportunities for those wanting to stock up on food/water supplies....
