Help connect Hedge End

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Hedge End’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

Netley Common and Shoreburs Greenway are lovely places to walk, and I'd echo the previous reviewer and suggest carrying on to the end of the Greenway if you have the time and energy. The spectacular views from the Itchen Bridge are the icing on the cake....

Walk this route

I didn't follow this route exactly as I turned right after crossing the Itchen Bridge and walked down through Woolston to Weston Shore where I picked up the start of Shoreburs Greenway and followed this until it rejoined the route at Sholing, following the start/end of the Itchen Way....

Walk this route

I walked the route from Eastleigh to Hedge End. I didn't encounter any trees blocking the route as described in the previous reviews so I presume these have now been cleared. The route does provide a way to walk between Hedge End and Eastleigh however I wouldn't rush to repeat it; I feel this route is means to an end rather than a pleasant relaxing walk....

Walk this route

The route I walked went from Hedge End to Burseldon, starting on the main road through Hedge End where there are benches and a well-stocked, working public toilet....

Walk this route

I wouldn't refuse to walk this route again, but it wouldn't be top of my list....

Walk this route

Links up a good number of green spaces but there are long sections beside roads, so not always quiet. Some parts of Shoreburs Greenway and Netley Common can become muddy in winter but nice and shady in summer. There are also a couple of road crossings that do not have pedestrian crossings (although most do)....

Simon W

Walk this route

There is a 1 km stretch along an unpaved minor road (Allington Lane) which has recently become very busy and consequently it is not particularly pleasant to walk....

John Porteous

Walk this route

This route is mainly on pavements or along quiet lanes, with some stretches across fields or through small woods....

Walk this route

A route of about half pavement walking and then half away from road taking in greenway and Netley Common. I can't think of a better way to get from Southampton to Hedge End....
