Help connect Hawkinge
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Hawkinge’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
There is one footpath that has been deliberately blocked and some other mapping issues which made the navigation somewhat uncertain, including inside a Military Training Zone where soldiers were actually firing towards the path. The attached map (photo 1) shows where there are issues with the Ordance Survey Map (marked as 1-7), or with the line of LymHaw 2 (A-F). From the notes on their photo survey by the route's author I think it’s the route they actually walked along. Either the OS line is on the other side of a fence from where the path in use is, or the LymHaw 2 route line does the same. The issues were magnified by the stern “Danger” signs to stay on the path (photo 4, they don't mean the path shown on the goverment issued maps!), the gunfire (photo 5, weapons pointing at the path I’d just walked along!) and the 'stiles' (photo 6) at each OS theoretical cross-over position. It’s not actually used by the route but checking it began my distrust of the OS mapping. I think you actually walked the tighter-mapped version I've posted as LymHaw 3 so your review and survey would work just as well there if you can re-post them....

Visibility wasn't great and my photos don't really do the walk justice, when it wasn't raining too hard to even get my phone out....

Before the steep hill is a very busy road, which was not fun to navigate, but was fairly straightforward given the signposting. Overall, impressive scenery and interesting wildlife....

You need to be aware walking from Folkestone is largely up hill so a good level of fitness or time to stop will need to be factored in....

A practical A to B route, entirely on pavement along side main roads. Quickest and easiest route just not that pretty. No other real way to cross the motorway....

Not the most exciting route to walk, but is the shortest between Folkestone and Hawkinge and is all on paved walk ways so no mud when wet. Folk to Hawk is mainly up hill and has some great views when not raining as it was the day I did this review....
