Help connect Haverhill

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Haverhill’s Slow Ways.

At TL 767 490 just below Clopton Hall the route joins a lane and the takes a footpath heading east. The best way to avoid this is instead as the route suggests following a footpath round the back of Clopton Hall, stay on the road until you pass Clopton Hall....

Pleasant enough walk generally and a good alternative to the problems identified in SafHav 1 up until Castle Camps. Paths in reality don't match official positions on OS, Essex Council and at other times OSM maps....

Personally I’d not recommend to walk there because its incredibly easy to get a thorn in the feet or just hurt yourself walking on these fields...

Lots of walking on very quiet lanes and farm tracks, plus some footpaths. One field had been recently ploughed and the path was lost, but it was easy to cross anyway....

At the Haverhill end there is some road walking: the road is not very busy but in places there is no way to get off the road because the hedges come up to the verge....

Walk this route

There is no information regarding a diversion, but a quick search shows that the developers applied to close the path and have proposed to provide an alternative, but it is not clear when or where this will be. The rest of the route is fine and I will review it with my suggested alternative for the closed path....

A lovely 9 mile walk one way, some road walking but majority is through fields and along a river. Clare country park is also a nice place to visit....
