Connect Havant with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Havant to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?
Give a hike!Help connect Havant
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Havant’s Slow Ways.

This route is a mix of road walking (along busy main roads and narrow country lanes with blind corners and no footpaths) and rough tracks over fields of grass and crops. Although technically easy (there are no major gradients) the traffic conditions at the time of survey (Sat 21 Sep 2024) were bad, with cars passing close to me at high speed. I wouldn't recommend this route for those with mobility impairments or with animals or children....

The route follows the trail past the old station (now a community centre) then turns East over a wooden bridge that crosses the chalk stream running along the East side of the trail. Although the path heading east towards Emsworth is shown on OS Maps as running above the high water mark, in reality it is overgrown and blocked, and the path actually runs along the beach for about 400m until you pass a track heading inland. This path continues along the coast as far as emsworth, but the route turns inland at a well-signposted kissing gate, heading North-East across a field to go through Warblington church's cemetery. The first section, from the station to the coastal path, is accessible, as is the last section within Emsworth, but the middle section, where the path follows the Solent Way along the coast, is not....

Really beautiful walk ending in a lovely town. Bear in mind the tidal path though, we ended up wading through it (oops)....

The pedestrian footpath we would have followed was closed while they improve it, meaning we had to walk along some very busy high speed roads. The parts of the walk away from town were very nice though...

This isn't the case and as a result the route is along a pebbled beach and you need to be aware of the tide unless you want a paddle....
Simon
This is quite an urban walk and follows busy roads for most of its route....

Emsworth is a beautiful little town with some fabulous pubs and cafes to call into, definitely worth having a little bit of time free to explore!...

As we got the waters edge there was a temporary footpath closure and the diversion had us walking next to a busy road as opposed to along the coast. There was a designated footpath, but nervous dogs or young children may find this current diversion a little tricky. Once on the coastal path, was lovely to see the birds and wildlife that are being encouraged in the area...

The finish is Emsworth train station, so stop once you get to the harbour or centre for the best experience....

The coastal section West of Pooks Lane is impassable at high tide...

Very flat route from Havant Station to Hayling seafront along a disused railyway line "The Billy trail"....

This is a safe route, with very little car traffic once past the crossing in Emsworth village, lived in the area for many years and it's the first time for this walk; will definitely do it again....

This is the same route as for HavEms One - see that review...

Mainly footpath walk from Portsmouth Station through the town to Milton Common, there are some busy roads and a footbridge over the railway, which may hamper some walkers....

Just before Fort Southwick, there is a dedicated grassy path that then follows the road (on the south side), all the way along the hill until just before the George pub, where the the pavement begins again. The route is reasonably accurate, although personally I would not do the first part of the walk again (Boarhunt Road etc. as it is an extremely busy road)....
