Walk this routeThe alternate route into Ipswich went via Chantry & Gippeswyk park. There is about 1/4 miles on this road which needs crossing to go into Gippeswyk Park and then via a road onto the station....

I walked this from Ipswich to Hadleigh, for the section along the river nad the other direction for the rest of the route. I had walked the upper part of the path before but this was the first time I had walked the lower part of the path. I did try the suggested alternative, Hadips Two (see other review) on my way back from Hadleigh but much prefered the river walk....

On leaving Hadleigh the route is through a small wooded area with a steep climb with some logs over the path, so not suitable for wheeling. The route doesn't align at all with the roads here, I took a right on to Chaplin road after the Hare & Hounds, crossing to Pitts End and picking up the footpath at the corner of Richardsons Road. Continuing onto Manningtree, if not needing the train station, I'd suggest deviating from the route and following the path along the river towards Cattawade....

I would suggest not using this road and instead using footpaths south of Offton to Rookery Farm then south to Elmsett (needs pioneering)....

As the previous reviewer has mentioned, at Polstead, the route is through the housing estate on Rockalls Road....

The route outside the town is mostly around farmland to Hintlesham where it passes through the grounds and golf course of the beautiful old Hall....

Pictures attached show gate and overgrown footpath entrance, however walk 100 yards more and a pleasant estate road takes you to a well signposted footpath to later rejoin the original route. Turn left and follow the footpath for half a mile until you join the Boxted Road and a bridge crossing. Alternatively follow Brick Kiln Lane as originally planned and continue on the Essex Way to Armoury Road and to West Bergholt (Essex Way signs all the way).Turn left onto B1508 and stay on footpath through Braiswick into Colchester....

I would have given the walk 4 stars but for one section between Ash St in Whatfield and Rectory Rd in Semer. The GPX made it very easy to navigate and with the proviso of the overgrown section, I would recommend this walk to others....

The first part was really nice but the road from Great Waldingfield to Sudbury was horrible - a busy road with a pavement for 2 miles. It would have been much better to leave the route there and go via Acton - probably longer but would have been much nicer I expect....
