Help connect Gosforth
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Gosforth’s Slow Ways.

For the majority of the year the most you would encounter while crossing the Town Moor would be fellow walkers and runners. As you come out of the Town Moor you have to cross a very busy main road to get into Dukes Moor. There isn’t a pedestrian crossing directly on the route....

I started at Four Lane Ends and used the route to walk to a cricket match at South Northumberland Cricket Club....

Brunton Bridge has a pub and store/post office plus buses. Gosforth has all the shops, coffee, benches - and buses....

I walked north from Gosforth, and this is a largely urban route, following first the main road and then quiet back streets. Only the last mile to Wideopen made a pleasant change, after the Grand Hotel, with a nice woodland path. So it's an acceptable way but maybe someone local could design a route with more natural interest?...
Andrew Davies
I agree that this is a totally straightforward, step free and direct paved route. It's pleasant enough and gives some varied urban environments in a short distance. Good shops, cafes and transport at either end....
Andrew Davies
There were a few poor crossings - from Exhibition park to Queen Victoria Road and some side road crossings on Gosforth High Street....

This is a fully accessible route through suburban streets, at the edge of parkland and then through the city centre. Easy walking....

It was a fully accessible route along urban streets with a section on shared cycleway. it was good to get away from traffic noise on the cycleway. A good straightforward route....
Philip Le Marquand
This is certainly one of the most accessible and shortest routes from Gosforth to Newcastle city centre. On safe wide pavements along the nevertheless busy Great North Road. I would personally go through Jesmond or the Town Moor for a more scenic route but much less accessible as per the OPs notes....

Brugos 3 route is more direct and easier to follow...

A nice diversion through the wildlife park if you fancy it. Brugos3 is more direct if you have places to be or aren't familiar with the area...

Most effective route of the three options here...
Nik Hunter
A very pleasant route with varied surroundings which takes you from central Gosforth to Newcastle city centre by Central Station, or vice versa, being largely the natural fastest walking route between the two except for crossing some Moors instead of going straight down the main and busy 'Great North Road' but still managing to stay impressively close to a direct 'as the crow flies' route, as can be seen from the route on the map....
Sadie Bartholomew
A very accessible route that, precisely as the route submitter's overview states, is "not quite as pleasant as walking across the Town Moor and through the park", i.e. the 'Gosnew one' route, but is (paraphrasing) easier due to less crossings of the busy roads and more accessible due to always having paths rather than unpaved areas e.g....

Walk this routeUploaded as a suggested alternative to the original route, as this is more direct and easy to navigate - not do many twists and turns. Start and end are via pleasant quiet paths and roads....

It is nice there, but mostly a worn path rather than any surfacing so it is very muddy in the winter and not very accessible (see pics). I think they would be wheelchair accessible but not sure about cargo bikes/mobility scooters....
