At the quarry its national cycle network number 22, so metalled and easily passable in otherwise muddy conditions....

It is also safer as it uses the underpass to cross the A22 Godstone by pass which is a busy and dangerous road....

From Godstone the route soon goes along a path with a fence on one side (photo #1), and after crossing a field (photo #2) it enters the Surrey Hills AONB along a narrow lane (not busy, photo #3). After crossing over the M25 (photo #4), the route goes up, with some steep (photo #5) sections to come to a lovely view at the top from the North Downs Way (photo #6). The route then slowly and gently slopes down along good gravel paths (photo #7) before ending up going along a quiet residential neighbourhood without pavement (photo #8) before finishing at the station, where there is lots of traffic (photo #9)....

After crossing Brewer Street, there is a short section along Place Farm Road that is not pleasant, but you soon can walk along a wide sandy path (photo #11) along the Godstone Sand Quarry. At the far end of the quarry there is than a foot path (photo #12) that gets you to Bletchingly Road that gets you into Godstone along a pavement....

This is the route I take from Caterham down to Godstone and a pint at the hare and hounds. I’ll walk it again to upload some pictures. There are a few routes but this is the best way to avoid cars....

Walk this routeFrom here pretty much the whole route is along bridleways and small lanes. I'm not sure why the route starts where it does which is about half way between Godstone and Lingfield rail stations....

There is an minor adjustment I would suggest, instead of taking the path near the barley mow, if you take the path off Jackass Lane you can cross underneath the A22 by Hop Garden Cottage which is much easier....

This is a gorgeous route that goes through fields, along woodland, past quaint houses and past a reservoir. It is mostly flat but does have a couple of stiles. There's about a km of fairly dull section just before Godstone which goes around a quarry, the route on slow ways indicates to go straight through the quarry which isn't possible but a very slight detour to a parallel track gets you around that....
