Help connect Gerrards Cross
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Gerrards Cross’s Slow Ways.

I did splash through it but it was above mid-calf level and I wasn’t sure whether it’d be similar further on (thankfully it wasn’t)....

This is a mostly flat walk from Gerrards Cross to Amersham. Come out of the station approach road, turn left and turn immediately left into a small road between two shops and then follow a footpath. You turn walk along pavement through residential roads before having to cross a road. You then reach the main road, which you have to cross and then go into Stratton Chase Drive which eventually leads onto a footpath (take the right hand fork). When you reach the junction with Mill Lane you have to turn left and walk left for a short time on the road before turning right onto the footpath again. Cross the road and walk left along The Broadway and turn right after the Memorial Gardens, passed St Mary’s Church over a small bridge across the river, alongside the cemetery and up the hill to the woods....

The weather was generally calm and dry; there were a couple of muddy patches (especially on the outskirts of Chorleywood) but the walk was generally easy underfoot....

Walked Gerrards Cross to South Harefield. Lakes and canal all the way to South Harefield. South Harefield isn’t a big place, but there are stores and some green space for a picnic, and buses to Uxbridge. My tip for refreshments is: at the junction between the canal path and the lakeside path at Troy lake, just south of West Harefield, head north alongside the canal, and just before the bridge at Coppermill Lane is a large pub and eatery, with a garden, called the Coy Carp. And - there is a handy bus to Uxbridge (via South Harefield) from a stop just up Coppermill Lane on the Harefield side of the canal. A more direct option, that doesn’t include the loop around the lakes and the canal, would be less pleasant overall, and would likely involve even more of the A412 or some other big road....

Then along a road to a golf course, there are woods here but also walking alongside greens with balls coming at you head on, take care. Beautiful countryside to be seen along narrow paths made quite muddy by recent rain....

This is a lovely walk, very varied over undulating terrain with some short steep parts....

From Slough Station the B416 takes you past shops and suburban housing, its a busy road and the pavement becomes narrower and closer to the traffic as you go out of the town. after 2km the route turns left through a narrow gate and along a narrow path. More paths across quiet farmland and the busy road is soon forgotten....

Walk this routeGreat route, but with one impassable section. I've created Gercho 2 to fix it....

From Chorleywood you'll need to climb a little to get onto the Common for a short stretch, and then after some walking along residential roads, you'll end up in some alley way public footpaths. After a while it is downhill towards the A413, which you have to follow for about 25 metres, before crossing the Gerrards Cross Golf Club (look out for golf balls!) and along a lake with swans, with a ford at the end...

I walked this from Gerrards Cross to Uxbridge, on a warmish autumn afternoon. The route starts at the Tescos and after some walking along the high street you quickly cross into the nice common. Starting from Tesco there is a short high street before reaching Gerrards Cross' pleasant common. On the other side there is a short walk beside the A40 before cutting thorough a quiet 'access only' road. This exits by a bus stop and you have to cross the A40 and walk along it a bit further into Tatting End. Cross again by another bus stop, down a quiet road to a new gravel road passing through woods....

It goes through Chalfont St Giles (Feathers pub is good for a stop) and then Chalfont St Peter....

The route goes through Jordans and touches on Seer Green, and then crosses a golf course....

The middle section is lovely, but coming out of Gerrards Cross and coming into Slough are dreadful walking along roads with fast moving cars. I've created Sloger Two which fixes the Gerrards Cross traffic section with something much nicer, similar to what Gerive one does....

I walked this from Gerrards Cross to Slough on a warm summer morning, except for the section out of Gerrards Cross, which I walked on the same day but coming back from Iver (avoiding the busy road section in Gerrards Cross from Sloger one). At the end of that, you need to cross a busy road, followed by a fairly long slog along a busy road with a narrow path right next to a big wall, to get you into Slough....

Derick Rethans added Sloger two, a new walk from Slough to Gerrards Cross
Walk this routeWhen you come out of the park there is a little road walking, with light traffic, although they can go a little fast. Once you cross Windsor Road, there are public foot paths which you follow in a big V, but you can also walk along the third leg of the triangle to shorten the route a little. After another road walking section up a hill, you end up on (the very dry) Gerrards Cross Common, and soon at your destination at the station....

Walk this routeThere is now a Gerric Two which is similar but navigates around the blocked paths....

Another diversion sign takes you along a quiet road before turning left into a lovely wood, steep in places. You come out near an HS2 works entrance and a walk alongside a busy road on a bark-mulched path on the verge. left again to a roundabout, cross and go down a quiet suburban road to the town centre....

A short section on pavements to a bridge and steps down to the canal. After a weir and just before a bridge turn right for a path between the lakes, it turns alongside, but not next to, the Denham Road....

Walk this routeCrossing the street (Long Bottom Lane) then brings you across a golf course for quite some time, before crossing the rail way and the new "Beaconsfield Eastern Relief Road" to walk through some residential streets, an alleyway, and along a slightly busy Maxwell Road to find some steep steps down to the station....
Derick Rethans
I've uploaded Gersou 2, which solves this with a redirection....
Derick Rethans
Along a little bit of road (A412) the route needs to skirt around HS2 building works, but a new path has been provided and safe. On the west side of the M25 however, the path becomes narrow with nettles on one side, and a barbed wire on the other....
Derick Rethans
Langley Park is beautiful, but the path marked on the OS map is unwalkable, partly blocked by dead-hedge to preserve the woods, and partly non-existent. Another walk in the road to fields and under the M25, another road then Bulstrode Park. This walk is mostly beautiful woods and countryside with lots to see and do, but is marred by some navigation issues and some uncomfortable road walking/crossing...

miketalbot added Geruxb two, a new walk from Gerrards Cross to Uxbridge
Walk this routeThis might be possible but it's 4 lanes of fast traffic and I found no easy or safe way to cross. I loaded an alternative to avoid this....
miketalbot
Unfortunately, this route is fairly unpleasant – most of it is either on narrow footpaths next to fast roads or alongside industrial farms. At one point around the half way point the farm is undertaking serious earthwork and the footpath is non-existent, hopefully once that finishes the path will be clearer. Footpaths along the middle section are often overgrown, muddy and there is quite a bit of rubbish and flytipping along the way....
miketalbot
I would instead turn right along Bull lane where there is a pavement, and then turn onto the path that runs along the trainline from there (that is what I did on my way back and I much preferred it)....

There is a path alongside the A40 from the Underpass out of Beaconsfield to the Footpath past Potkiln lane. Use that and the rest of the route is usable. The section through Wilton Park is not open...
Mark Lucas
Slight confusion as the route goes straight across the road at Welder's Lane, but it looked from the map as if it might follow the road briefly. A number of stiles, some steep-ish hills and narrow alleys, so may not be suitable for those with trouble walking or pushing prams etc....
