Latest Updates
This was probably my favourite part of the walk - as it was a real mixture of terrain and it was at times beautiful....
Nate Frost
There were access issues here and we had to divert around a field and across a freshly turned field where we had to ridge hop due to very deep furrows - slow progress and not at all accessible at this time of year - I imagine when the field is in crop, there would be tractor tramlines to follow, making it a bit easier but not for any form of wheels....
Monika
After reaching the lodges, the route crosses the road and there is the option of following a footpath close to the road across fields, or walking the meandering paths through the Millenium Wood. All lead to the residential area Colton, where the route crosses Selby Road dual carriage way with safe crossings....
Monika
Walking through the fields after Mickelfield was fun but it became quickly confusing as we were meant to continue straight but were faced with a crossroads (see Lotherton/Huddleston picture) because the path going straight has a private property barrier....
Lora
Not very interesting bit to walk around the Thorpe Park shopping centre which adds a lot of concrete to the walk but there are shops if you need refreshments before Garforth....
Lora
Lots of fields which were quite muddy and signposting became tricky....
ANISA SALEH

Slow Ways Connections added Garshe two, a new walk from Garforth to Sherburn in Elmet
Walk this routeEnjoyable walk through mainly fields and a golf course. It was muddy the day I walked after a period of rain, but not impassable. Four stars as it has stiles and could not be wheeled....
Ross
Having retreated to Aberford Road, I followed the pavement to the Selby Road roundabout and the edge of Garforth, so I was unable to check whether the route south of Selby Road is affected by the housing development. An alleyway takes us off Selby Road, crossing a small recreation ground to Ringway, where we turn right and follow Lidgett Lane into the centre of Garforth....
Hugh Hudson
The path is never hard to follow, but does have some wet and muddy sections, and there was one point where it was covered in shallow water. Partington Lane is an NCN cycle route, but still has muddy sections. Note that the final short field crossing from the Peggy Ellerton Farm lane is no longer there on the ground, but it is easy just to follow the lane left to reach Chantry Lane instead. From here navigation is easy, but there are muddy sections on the lane and this section seemed quite long late in the day....
Hugh Hudson
Some of the sections through woods were very wet and muddy, so sturdy/waterproof footwear would be advised when it's been raining a lot....
Paul Kelly
Majority of paths good, wide and weatherproof; lots following bridleways or the 66 cycle network....
Sarah
Generally follows National Cycle Route 66 so quite a few handy signposts. Upwards of 80-90% is off-road - it's only really as you get to the final mile before the city centre that you do more roadside pavement walking. The section South of Halton Moor is worth keeping your wits about you, but most the route is otherwise safe and well traversed....
Sauntering Beancounter
A steady away walk, little idustrial to start with around back of industrial units Garforth, 3 miles or so to Aberford. No refuelling stops between Garforth and Tadcaster, so carry your own refreshment....
Beatdog
This is a level route out of the city centre and skirting Temple Newsam Park to end up in the village of Garforth....
HELEN NOYES
Good facilities at both ends with street footway or compacted paths along the route....
Ross
Quite a lot of on-road walking on the approach to Sherburn (no pavements) prevents 4 or 5 star...
erussell42
This route is a great way to travel between the two villages, and although the start and end are on pavements the middle part is on pathways and an old rail line, where its surrounded by fields with lots of birdlife to be seen. The path sections are unlit and can be very muddy at times and is quite narrow in places (see photo) but apart from this its a great....
