Connect Emsworth with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Emsworth to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?
Give a hike!Help connect Emsworth
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Emsworth’s Slow Ways.

The original route line rarely sits on top of the actual path, in places it's 200m away and at one point on the wrong side of a major A-road....

The route follows the trail past the old station (now a community centre) then turns East over a wooden bridge that crosses the chalk stream running along the East side of the trail. Although the path heading east towards Emsworth is shown on OS Maps as running above the high water mark, in reality it is overgrown and blocked, and the path actually runs along the beach for about 400m until you pass a track heading inland. This path continues along the coast as far as emsworth, but the route turns inland at a well-signposted kissing gate, heading North-East across a field to go through Warblington church's cemetery. The first section, from the station to the coastal path, is accessible, as is the last section within Emsworth, but the middle section, where the path follows the Solent Way along the coast, is not....

Really beautiful walk ending in a lovely town. Bear in mind the tidal path though, we ended up wading through it (oops)....

This isn't the case and as a result the route is along a pebbled beach and you need to be aware of the tide unless you want a paddle....

Emsworth is a beautiful little town with some fabulous pubs and cafes to call into, definitely worth having a little bit of time free to explore!...
Gerry Moss
A rather lovely route which incorporates several sections walking beside the shore of Chichester Harbour....

The finish is Emsworth train station, so stop once you get to the harbour or centre for the best experience....

It also parallels the Chichester Cathedral Mini Pilgrimage from Bosham to Chichester which can be found on the British Pilgrimage Trust website....

The coastal section West of Pooks Lane is impassable at high tide...

I'm sure it's moderately more pleasant than just following Havant Road, but the road has pavements. The roundabout at Havant Road is ok, with medians, just a bit annoying to cross. The path coming off Havant Road into Stein Wood is a bit overgown, but manageable....

This section to the west of Emsworth is under water at most high tides. The attached photo is 1 hour before actual high tide. Around the corner the concrete path stops......

moschatel added Emschi two, a new walk from Emsworth to Chichester
Walk this routeThis route follows the Chichester Harbour coastal footpath as much as possible, with lovely views of the harbour inlets. The footpath at Fishbourne is tidal at peak high tides....

This is a safe route, with very little car traffic once past the crossing in Emsworth village, lived in the area for many years and it's the first time for this walk; will definitely do it again....

This is the same route as for HavEms One - see that review...

Lovely start to the walk at Emsworth and through the Harbour, there are many small cafes and restaurants and a few shops to stock up if needed, as there is limited access for the rest of the route, bar a few very busy pubs....
