Help connect East Ham
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of East Ham’s Slow Ways.

I especially like the part that takes you through Little Ilford Park...
Clare
Definitely a nicer and quieter route than Plaeas One, that would take you along Barking Road. Central Park is a lovely place to stop as well....
Clare
As Daisy said, you do need to walk alongside the A406 for some of this walk but given the places it connects I think would be hard to avoid!...
Dan Barron
A perfectly good route here taking in the available off-road stretches on the Greenway and through Central Park....
Dan Barron
Nice easy walk which finishes at North Woolwich, you can then take the Ferry to Woolwich for extra excitement!...
Dominic Dragonetti
Pleasant walk through Newham, the highlights are Plashet and West Ham Parks which are both beautiful parks. Easy walk, no hills or really busy roads....

It cuts through a couple of parks, Plashet Park (toilets) and West Ham Park (toilets and water) and along some quietish streets in between ending up at Stratford Bus Station with numerous refereshment and retail opportunities in Stratford or the Westfield shopping centre....
Luvdaburgers
Might be the quickest way from Plaistow to East ham but it is also along the main busy road and not pleasant at all...
andrea weyand
There is a possible alternative which would go through central Barking and the Abbey grounds, with a short stretch along the Roding; but this option is serviceable and short....
Jane Taylor
Nicely angled to enjoyed prolonged wintry sunsets. West Ham Park was lovely and there were several other treats. It's only a little shorter than StrEas 1, lengths are just above/below 4.5km....

Busy Barking Road, buildings from East Ham's heyday and lovely cooking smells. I tested from North Woolwich to Gallions Reach Retail Park in January 2023 (overlap with some other Slow Ways) and from Gallions Roundabout to East Ham in December 2023....
Daisy C
This is an easy pleasant route to follow with lots of facilities. The Greenway path is a shared cycle route, but has plenty of space....

I particularly enjoyed the meadows in Little Ilford Park. And although it is alongside the N Circular the noise is muffled by trees. I would choose it again over EasIlf 2....

Daisy C added Easnor two, a new walk from East Ham to North Woolwich
Walk this routeIt's not likely I'll walk it again but it's a solid 3/5 and it'll get you from A to B. But adding the riverside path also adds bigger nastier roads, and once I was there I could see the constant traffic on one of those roads from the Roding footbridge....
Daisy C
I do wonder if an alternate route between Stratford Station and Shirley Road that avoids walking along Broadway would be an idea - going via the north perimeter of Stratford Park - might add a bit of scenery as well as being quieter....
Becky OB
Like any possible route connecting East Ham and Barking this has to deal with a few big roads including crossing the North Circular so it is not the quietest but it is short and is has a small segment where it crosses the River Roding. It might be possible to re-route this and extend it slightly with more of a walk along the Roding to make a nicer walk. To cross the North Circular you take a bridge with sloping steps going up either side, the East Ham side is steeper....
Dan Barron
West Ham Park closes at night but it has toilets including accessible toilets and a water fountain....
Dan Barron
A much better route is to head south east on the Greenway and come off at Boundary Road and wiggle through the smaller streets to Central Park East Ham. That way also takes you past a community orchard near Newham General Hospital...
Kate Shurety
This is an inner city route mainly on quiet tree lined residential streets....
