Help connect Dollar
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Dollar’s Slow Ways.

We returned from Dollar to Tilli via this route, having headed to Dollar via Tildol Two....

At the end of the route instead of going down McNab Street then along the A91 to the finish point, we stayed on Manor House Road and headed down Cairnpark Street instead, just to stay off the main road for longer....

I walked this route from Tillicoultry to Dollar, having used TILDOL 3 to walk from Dollar, a pleasant round trip of about 7.5 miles. A flat walk along the course of the old railway line was followed by a steepish climb up, then mostly downhill into Dollar with good views, passing fields of sheep and deer, the latter with very impressive antlers! Most of the route was on wide surfaced paths and tracks, suitable for wheels but just coming into Dollar there was a short descent via steps to the grounds of Dollar Academy and it seemed a pity that an alternative way into the town was not shown (I did not have time to investigate myself but plenty of paths on my map)....

I would certainly recommend this varied route following the course of the River Devon initially near its banks then high above, with views over to the Ochils....

A nice route, that takes in some of the industrial history of the area as it passes by the former mine where some interpretation panels tell its story. I enjoyed walking on the narrow paths and the farm tracks, through woodland, across meadows and finally following the river before arriving into Dollar from the south side and a welcome cup of tea and piece of cake at the cafe just by the meeting point. This route is accurately mapped and I thoroughly recommend it....

Walk this routeThe walk doesn't seem to take very long as it winds its away along the bottom of the Ochils with shady parts in woodland strips and other parts with views across the Forth valley....

Walk this routeI walked this route on a glorious spring day, southwards from Auchterarder, and it was a very pleasant varied walk....

Super route, traversing the Ochils which is almost completely off road. At Couls Hill, the path heads out onto the open hill, recently planted with trees and with wind turbines installed. The section of path just after the reservoir is particularly pleasant to walk as the glen narrows before heading over the col and starting the descent down to Castle Campbell and onto to Dollar....

Nice route spoilt only by incorrect mapping for crossing the very busy A9 near Auchterarder and very rough mapping for the rest of the route. I have remapped this route along with F Berry....

From Auchterarder the route heads along the pavement beside Ruthven Street and crosses the A9 in an underpass. Johnny Mathies path provides a route up to the minor road at Butend, then (not signposted at its northern end) estate tracks climb past Eind and Foswell and Bellshill. A path, muddy at times, continues southwards to join, over a stile, the quiet minor road to Coulshill. From here there is a steady ascent on a defined, sometimes braiding path which is boggy in places, to the pass known as Cadgers Yett. Leaving the main road, some steps lead down to a bridge crossing the River Devon, the path leads on to Burnfoot....

The route from Dollar to Crook of Devon is mostly off road and follows an ancient drove road. At Crook of Devon, if you are not needing the shop, a more direct route can be taken from just after 'Beech Grove', leaving the village centre to your left and rejoining the route just before Crook Moss. At Kinross, a faster and more direct route into town can be taken by staying on the old main road to the town centre....

This route is easily split in two shorter walks using the newly reinstated bus between Kinross and Dollar, breaking the journey at Crook of Devon....

The final section of the walk is on a main road into Kinross, however there is a pavement to walk on and the time spent on this section is quite short....

The route follows NCN767 (Devon Way) along the track of the old railway. Consequently it is level, and tarmacked throughout. The steps mentioned in the other review can be avoided joining the route from near the Health Centre in Dollar....

The exception, which would be impossible for wheelers, is the linking steps between the cycleway and the road to Lower Mains, at Dollar, however there is an alternative option for wheelers to reach the village centre which is to follow the cycleway east to the Dollar Burn, then head north past the school....

Continue along the railway and do not turn off to the right along a small path as the original route suggests. At the point where the railway line goes left veer right up to the quiet tarmac road....

The map shows a way to get over the road via a bridge when in fact you go left at the end of the street and under the road through a tunnel. Not accessible to all due to the condition of the path at the higher part of the walk....
