Help connect Crowborough
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Crowborough’s Slow Ways.

Walk this routeThe idea may have been to include Rotherfield as a rest place but personally I don't think it worth the risk....

After passing through through Chantler's farm, continue through the trees until you reach a large cow field that is open on both sides of the path....

Ben Wrigley added Cowcro two, a new walk from Cowden to Crowborough
Walk this routeN.B. If planning to come by train, Cowden station is 30 minute walk on busy roads or 45 minute walk on footpaths to Cowden village itself.. After that, it’s pretty straight forward, all the way to picturesque Hartfield with a lovely pub and handy village shop (for welcome ice cream on a hot day!)...

I walked this route from Uckfield to Crowborough on a sunny day in the middle of May. In general I found this to be a well-drawn route which successfully deals with the issue of the strange diversion to walk along the A26 at the Crowborough end of UCKCRO 1. However the big house and church at Buxted Park are worth a look and just off the route. There appeared to be a small path re-route just to the west of Kiln Farm near High Hurstwood where I was walking exactly on the line of the path as shown by OS and SatNav but was brushing through overgrown holly bushes....

I would also add that the start point in Crowborough is quite a walk from Crowborough station, around 1.5 miles mostly up hill so if planning the route by train this needs to be factored in....
Dan Barron
This route takes on to a dangerous section of Beacon Road A26 with no pavement of verge to walk on when there is a much better footpath route. Ingrina created Uckcro 2 which fixes this...

There are a few gates and stiles, and the paths can be narrow and very muddy in places, so it is not wheelchair or pram friendly. But it is good for anyone who loves a muddy walk and some wild garlic en route!...

Walk this routeWalked on 11th March, this route is well traced on the map and pretty easy to follow on the ground. From Forest Row, the path heads into Ashdown Forest along farm tracks and across field paths. If you come off the route at Forest Row or Hartfield, you will find facilities in the villages but you pass nothing directly on the path....

This is a scenic route through Ashdown Forest, an area criss-crossed with dozens of paths big and small....
