Help connect Crewkerne
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Crewkerne’s Slow Ways.

A good route - takes in a lot of scenic villages and vistas, minimal time on roads (and those short stretches that are included aren't very busy). One current issue with the route - which has been reported to the council on 14 Aug 24 is the area adjacent to Poples Well/Grintley lane - where the footpath has not been maintained. Depending on how long the council take to get to this section (may be some time from experience) it is possibly worth ignoring the off road section and continuing along the lane....

This route is mostly off road, crossing farmland, but is tough going in the winter. Much of the farmland sections aren't very walker friendly in that the footpath signs are gone or damaged, there are fields of crops to cross, and many of the stiles and gateways are in a sad state of repair, often with barbed wire or electric fences presenting an additional hazard....

Loved so much about this route! I agree with the other reviews....

You'd want to have some waterproof boots or shoes if it's been raining or been wet for a while. It's otherwise a great route....

Walk this routeThere's about 3km/2 miles of road walking at the Yetminster End where you'll need to walk carefully....

I'm keen to walk from Crewkerne to Honiton.... so will come back and use it again for that! Thank you Helen!!!...

Some people will not like all the lanes (there's a lot of lane walking), but I enjoy walking them......

Near East Lease Farm the footpath is blocked by wire fences, but there is a farm track a few feet to the north that I used instead....

Venues Track is waterlogged and only passable in wellies, and even then is unpleasant. Use ChaCre2 which avoids these problems....

If you follow this spectacular walk you'll find far reaching views to rival any in those more well known places. There is a section with "Beware of the Bull" signs written in blood red, which is a little off putting, but there was no sign of the bull when I went....

Helen Gough added Creyet two, a new walk from Crewkerne to Yetminster
Walk this routeAlthough the route follows a public footpath, there is no way through Lower Penhill Farm. Coming from the Yetminster direction, you will get stuck in the farmyard setting off their alarms. Use CreYet two instead....

Decent route between Crewkerne and Ilminster via Hinton St George using footpaths and quiet lanes. Coming into Ilminster you go through a field with horses behind electric fences, and for some reason the land owner has put a barrier across the path....

Decent route, not too strenuous, crossing farmland, towns and villages....

Some of the tracks are rough underfoot and the route is not suitable for wheelchairs....
