Help connect Coventry
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Coventry’s Slow Ways.

This could easily be avoided if after exiting the University Grounds you turn right along Gibbet Hill Road and then left at the island onto Leighfield road to join up with KenCov2 at the start of the link road to the Greenway...

Pleased to find a trig point just out of town and fields were a little waterlogged, but passable (we have had a lot of rain recently)....

David Sanderson added Natcov one, a new walk from National Exhibition Centre (NEC) to Coventry
Walk this routeI would add that the route was generally enjoyable but could clearly be improved, particularly from a Slow Ways perspective....

As the first reviewer rightly noted, the path up from Bennetts Road North to Burrow Hill Lane is quite overgrown and constrained between fences. We cross at the junction and go a short distance down Lamp Lane, then take the field path down to Tippers Hill Lane, where we go right then left along what is initially a farm track. Nuneaton Road is reached easily enough, and we turn right then use another field path to reach Sandy Lane, where we turn left and then right at Wood Lane, where the next field path is at the far side of the junction. With a little determination we reach Burrow Hill Lane, where we go right then left up Rock Lane, where we saw climbers on what looks like an old quarry. After crossing Bennetts Road South we approach houses, but it is easiest to stay on the well trodden field path and cross to the allyeway lower down near Brookford Avenue....

The walk starts by leaving the village behind fairly quickly, hugging the edge of Daffern's Wood (photo 1) before reaching a short section of road to Gun Hill Farm. The route then ascends towards another brief road section, before getting to a double track towards Tipper's Hill Farm. The route passes under electricity lines (photo 5) as you head towards the village of Wood End, where there is another brief section of road walking through the village. The next footpath is reached from the car park of the pub, and takes you across grassland before reaching Sandy Lane and yet another bit of road walking. The distraction was soon forgotten though, as the route takes you along a busy road with no footpath (photo 10) around the fort at the top of Burrow Hill. There is one final section of road walking along Fivefield Road, but after reaching the outskirts of the City, most of the walk is taken up through the side streets of suburbia (photo 11) as you snake your way towards the city centre....

I tagged Bednun one onto it to make a good 10 mile walk, so the Greyhound at Hawkesbury Junction was a great halfway point on the two walks....
Steve Litchfield
A reasonable portion of the route was on lanes, which although not busy on a Sunday in November (or least, only with cyclists), could be potentially a little dangerous as the grass verges were not always suitable to walk on....

This route takes you out of Coventry city centre through Hillfields and along the Coventry canal, through woodlands and crossing over some of the major A roads in Coventry before walking through fields and farms at the back of Coombe Abbey and into Brinklow. There were two short sections on quite busy roads which do require some care. Refreshments available from shops and pubs on the way out of Coventry and pubs, a cafe and the village store in Brinklow....
LauraPD
From Peter Hall it's a bit of walking on the road before you get to the track to Hillfields & Walsgrave Farms. Eventually the route reaches the Sowe Valley & Stoke Floods Green which is a welcome break from the road walking, but it's not long before you're back next to the traffic for the remainder of the journey into the City....
Steve Litchfield
The walk (in the direction we travelled) follows the river up to Baginton, past the remains of Bagot's Castle (if the site is open there's a loo and a cafe) and through the churchyard which contains Polish war graves. We took a shortcut along the A46 (beside the allotments, not along the road!) to the new bridge, which is already graffittied. The walk into the city centre becomes more residential as you approach, although there is welcome relief through London Road Cemetary (also worth an explore in it's own right)...

On the whole it's a good route, taking an interesting path through Gibbet Hill. Negatives aside, it is a good route utilising a bit of the Kenilworth Greenway on the old disused rail line to Berkswell and a good bit of Gibbet Hill Wood....
Steve Litchfield
From then on the route is pleasant, through fields, and a walk through someones garden (which is public foot path, but still a surprise). Reaching Berkswell is where this route falls apart a bit, your better off just sticking to the road....
Max
Considering this walk starts in a fairly big city, the walk is pleasant walking alongside an old graveyard, open common land and some pleasant areas....
Steve Litchfield
A few trips away from the busy city as you get to follow both the canal and the River Sowe for a short while, before heading through Coombe Abbey Park and onto Brinklow. Ice cream, cafe and toilets available in Coventry and at Coombe Abbey (a short detour off of the route)...
Marion Frankland
A pleasant walk out of Coventry, with a detour to follow the River Sowe for a while, before moving through Coombe Abbey Park and picking up the Coventry Way to Binklow....
Marion Frankland
This is a nice route between Coventry and Solihull, but be aware that HS2 means the path might be blocked and a detour necessary....
Marion Frankland
HS2 an issue outside of Berkswell but you were able to cross the site (see photo 1) at a slightly off route path (see photo 3)....

Generally good route: cycle path between Kenilworth and Warwick University particularly good to walk along. Odd diversion at one point into and then out of a field. Easily avoided by remaining on the cycle path....
fedora_1
Shortly after Berkswell the route is blocked by HS2 construction work. Access to Park Lane isn't possible....
Slow Ways Darren
A lovely route along the canal, and the change to explore the art and sculpture trail along the way. Potentially enhanced by starting at the canal basin, although this will add distance to the journey...
Marion Frankland
Personally, would head into Tutbury open space when crossing the a45 and follow the footpath along the stream and into Gibbet Hill Wood, before picking this route up on Gibbet Hill Road...
Marion Frankland
Few strange diversions off the cycle path through harder to walk on fields, seemingly just for the sake of it. Shame that HS2 works are going to destroy much of the surroundings....
meloddymaybe
-the intial section of the Kenilworth Road should drop off the pavement on the left (walking out of Coventry) and onto the footpath through the woods between the road and the Memorial Park. -After crossing the a45, there is a footpath through the woods on the right side of the road (heading out of Coventry). This is between the pavement and the houses....
Marion Frankland
Only possible issue to be aware of would be the section after passing under A46 (west to east) before entering Coombe Abbey grounds, hedge possibly impinging onto the footpath could narrow the path and there is quite fast traffic (we walked in spring)....
Laura
As previously reviewed there is a good tarmac path alongside the canal all the way to Hawkesbury Junction where Oxford Canal and Coventry Canal join. Some of this was pleasant and interesting but inevitably, given its urban situation, both the canal and canalside were blighted in parts by litter particularly beer cans. The only downside was a speeding motorbike which had no right to be on a narrow canal path....

Most of the towpath has recently been resurfaced from the centre of Coventry until Sutton Stop....

On the Stoneleigh side, there are a about a dozen kissing gates, as well as steps and low barriers which could make cycling the route or using a pushchair etc difficult at best, but otherwise not a problem. The photos show the typical footpaths, kissing gates and bridges near Stoneleigh, the missing footbridge at the roundabout, and some of the route toward Coventry....
benbass
Easy to follow with no serious obstacles - 1 high stile in early part. Provides a mix of field paths and urban parks. Last 2 miles into Coventry is rather dull with streets full of waste bins....
