Help connect Cottingham
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Cottingham’s Slow Ways.

Essentially a fast cycle route on main roads, taking less than 30 minutes unless held up with the level crossing just out of Cottingham Station!! If walking the route look out for the Polar Bears and Elephant ;-)...

At the end of the lane, opposite the pub, turn right onto Bricknell Avenue. Follow the track until you reach a small drain then turn left along the bank until you cross a main road. Keep moving east until you reach Chanterlands Avenue turn right and go under the railway bridge....

On leaving Cottingham Station head southwards to Snuff Mill Lane....

Las section into Cottingham has a narrow path alongside a drain which needs to be walked carefully....

Karen Towner added Bevcot three, a new walk from Beverley to Cottingham
Walk this routeI am going to add another route which combines the best bits (for me) of bevcot 1 and 2 plus a little variation at the end to simplify navigation near Millbeck Wildlife area....

Care needs to be taken as you navigate the outskirts of Beverley and Cottingham but if you know the area or have a navigation tool you will be alright. There are a number of obstacles which would prevent wheelchair access and perhaps some larger buggies. Lots of beautiful spring flowers and birdlife even around the large electricity sub station....
Karen Towner
This is an easy to follow route, much of it following well signposted public footpaths. There are areas of woodland and hedgerows with plenty of bird life at this time of year (spring). The HV power lines and distribution substation somewhat spoil the route, if you’re looking to immerse yourself in nature....

You are now on Bricknell Ave [ ///slowly.jelly.bind ] and wheel users have the opportunity to get here using road side footpaths if they follow Thwaite St at [ ///unique.dices.vibe ]. Wheel users have the opportunity to get here using road side footpaths if they follow Bricknell Ave, and Chanterlands Ave. Once again wheel users can continue on Chanterlands Ave and then follow Spring Bank West....

I’d give it 5 stars, but in places there are off-road footpath alternatives to avoid roadside sections that I’d preferably take and maximise the use of footpaths (though these probably add a bit of distance it’s worth it to maximise enjoyment)....

TJB1710 added Bevcot two, a new walk from Beverley to Cottingham
Walk this routePleasantly surprised as there was much more green space walking in an urban area than I thought there would be. It is difficult to follow without a GPX track on a GPS with a background of street mapping - I used the standard option on OS mapping app. The route follows cycle route 1 at the start although there are 2 deviations: 1) right at the start using Southgate rather than South Lane and 2) coming upto Boothferry Road it deviates to the East slightly....
