Help connect Cambourne

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Cambourne’s Slow Ways.

This revision solves the problems Sticam one and two where the A14 and A1307 make some paths become dead ends....

Walk this route

The route as per route description, shorter, passing through, or by, more villages, and less road walking. Cute villages with thatched roofs, interesting architecture along the way and interesting open spaces....

I detoured on road around to Fenstanton then took cycle route into St Ives as Slow ways route seemed unnecessarily long. Overall pleasant enough- flat terrain, sunny day, little traffic- but I think the route( or at least part I walked) needs further attention....

Gillcamp

Walk this route

The route from Oakington to the bridge over the A14 is quite a fast road with ditches and hedges on each side. This also makes for a more interesting route going past the Old Crown in Girton and a number of information boards along side the access road next to the A14....

DrGeoffSmith

Walk this route

Easy to follow and generally good quality paths or tracks....

Walk this route

Not suitable for wheel chairs but otherwise fairly flat, using a combination of footpath, dirt track and quiet country road....

Alternatively come up from northstowe, turn down Stanton Mere Way, and then turn left onto a track leading to Black Pit Drove, a bit less road walking.....

Last time I walked that section I struggled and a companion had to turn back for the sake of her small dog who simply couldn't manage the depth of the mud. Good but weather-dependant....

Walk this route

One gate to open an no styles, missed the turning to follow the old Roman road through abandoned Abottsley golf course, not sure if there was a sign. Some road walking but apart from through Caxton village they were very minor roads....

(I had a deadline to be at Cambourne before the car dealer closed so, finding the old route across Bourn Airfield was no longer an option, had to stride vigorously along a less picturesque but slightly shorter northern route for the last bit from Highfields Caldecote to Cambourn. The Bourn route shown is much nicer if you're not in a hurry!)...
