Personally I’d not recommend to walk there because its incredibly easy to get a thorn in the feet or just hurt yourself walking on these fields...

Walked this Stanton to Bury St Edmunds direction (can't find a route of that name - 2 x Bury St Edmunds to Stanton on Slow Ways site)....

Walk this routeIt goes through a golf course, which is pretty, but a little unnerving. Past the golf course, though, it's a nice, quiet trail. Coming into Mildenhall, it's necessary to cross the dual carriageway....

This is a busy 60mph road so I'd be worried about doing it on a weekday rush hour or a Saturday morning perhaps, as it's the main road into Bury. Just after point 15 is another busy 60mph road to cross, and then a long section of road with some bends where you have to be very aware of oncoming traffic....

If you must make this journey, I would recommend MilBur Three instead, as it cuts out one section of overgrown path. - Lackford Lakes to Culford is partly fine, but there are sections where the signage (and path) disappears, a section that's falling into the river and gets very slippery when wet, and sections overgrown with nettles for half the year. After leaving the main road in Culford, you use a narrow, often overgrown footpath to get to a short section on a busy road. Once you leave the golf course you're on a narrow path between trees and river, which has a tendency to become overgrown with nettles....

- The path at Icklingham through to Lackford Lakes is not clearly marked, so you will need a map or good memory to get through here. - Lackford Lakes to Risby is fine. - Westley to Bury is fine - a well made, well used path next to school playing fields, then pavements the rest of the way....

- A11 to Icklingham is totally overgrown and underused. - Lackford Lakes to Culford is partly fine, but there are sections where the signage (and path) disappears, a section that's falling into the river and gets very slippery when wet, and sections overgrown with nettles for half the year. Mostly clear and well used, although there's a short stretch on a busy road. Once you leave the golf course you're on a narrow path between trees and river, which has a tendency to become overgrown with nettles....

The vast majority of the route uses fairly narrow country roads, predominately with no lighting or pavements....

This route is mainly lanes, so some hard surface walking, with some cross field paths. It takes in three delightful villages, and in Ixworth, as you walk down the High Street there are two pubs, a cafe and a small food shop. Some obstruction which narrows the pavement access in Ixworth, due to badly parked cars....

The slight turn to the left includes a steep, and not well kept ditch, but onwards again there a beautifully maintained cross field path, which ends at the side of the wood....

Walk this routeI completed this route from Stowmarket to Bury St Edmunds with a break point in Woolpit. At just under 24km it is a long route and is better broken up with Woolpit as a mid-point albeit its 9.4km from Stowmarket and 14.3km from BSE....
