There is one exception, however, as you leave the A428 east of Turvey, the Slow Ways line lies on top of the eastern of two parallel footpaths, when you definitely need to be on the western one which takes you up a staircase of railway sleepers onto the disused railway line, keeping you outside (but squashed up against) the deer fencing that the first reviewer found herself inside. When you reach the A428 again to the east of Turvey you need to be careful to take the western of two footpaths onto the disused railway line (as described above). Here the owners have cut a track through an overgrown field which doesn't match the Ordinance survey line (let alone the Slow Ways line) on the map, but it gets you to where you need to go....

Dog wise, just be wary of the deer park at Picts Hill Estate & only 1 field with some horses as you come out of Clifton Reynes (going toward Olney)....

I was close to giving a 5 star rating, and I think the Bromham to Pavenham stretch, and the Pinchmill islands stretch just south of Sharnbrook would merit that rating.. I started from the Sharnbrook end. I found the Slow Ways map worked well to get me from the Swan with Two Nicks pub to the southern edge of the village, but was glad to have a compass and ordnance survey mapping to keep me on track on the stretch through the Pinchmill Islands to Brook Farm. At Brook Farm the track is very muddy when wet, and deeply rutted by tractor tyres.. After you exit the Golf Club the route forms two sides of a triangle (WSW then SE) to reach Pavenham, which I would suggest is only worth doing on a fine day when there are views to be seen from the farm track along the 85 metres high ridge (the highest point on the route). As the two previous reviewers have said, the real issue with this walk is a 50 metres stretch at the westernmost apex of the bend in the river Great Ouse 1 kilometre south west of Pavenham....

There are a few steps, and Bromham Bridge, though fairly quiet, lacks pavements. From the green in Bromham, we go south along Village Road for a short distance then go left at the church into a field, where a good path takes across Bromham Park to Millfield....
Hugh Hudson
From the north the path closest to the river looks well trodden, but it crosses two areas of deep bog, and it is much easier to take a higher line through the trees, which is still pretty muddy but has no sucking bogs....

The bus station is a good final destination, it seems to serve more locales than the train station (which is easily reached anyway from the route)....

I walked it in reverse from Kempston to Bromham, except for the part past Bromham Bridge - which was open but this last 1km has been well reviewed previously and on the Bromham to Bedford route. North of Great Denham Park, there is a dog-leg which seems strange and could be quicker via the S to N footpath link, and also at the very start of the route (if going from Kempston), there is a path which cuts a small amount of time just after near Papa Johns - see attached....

The bridge at Bromham has no path, but there are passing places for walkers to use to allow cars to pass safely. Not sure how easy this would be for pushchairs/wheelchairs....

However I started the walk at Bromham bridge. The bridge has no footpath but does have passing places for pedestrians. The walk is really nice and I would definitely walk it again....

Footpath all the way apart from Bromham Bridge. There is a nicer way, but you'll need to get wet ....

Parts were not well signposted, in particular around Tythe Farm (derelict) and the following section of the railway line. Just after the farm, the path turns left through a metal gate and then along the embankment of the railway - it seems the route is petering out but persevere through (and around) the tree trunks and you'll find steps eventually leading down to the bottom....

However there is a particularly boggy section of path as you approach Pavenham from Stevington....

Unfortunately the Kempston Mill footbridge on this route is closed, so this route cannot be completed. The walk from Bromham to Great Denham along the river is pleasant, despite the sound of traffic....
Liz Cox
The majority of the walk is on good quality pavements alongside roads....

Only slightly dodgy bit is the bridge across the Great Ouse at Bromham Mill - pedestrians need to dive between regularly spaced passing places to avoid passing cars (see photo), easy enough though and the cars do have good visibility of walkers....
