Help connect Brighouse
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Brighouse’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
I have not tested all of the amended sections but overall it looks easier to walk, and is definitely slightly shorter and has a little less ascent and descent. See HudBri one for a more detailed review with pictures....

Hugh Hudson added Hudbri two, a new walk from Huddersfield to Brighouse
Walk this routeFrom Huddersfield we head north along the pavements of John William Street and St Johns Road, then up the hill a bit, turning right down Birkby Hall Road (some of this wasted ascent could be avoided by using Blacker Road North and Norman Road). When we reach Bradford Road we almost immediately turn left up a flight of steps, then descend back to the road. We turn left onto Netheroyd Road and almost immediately take the signposted byway right (Judy Lane). The GPX plot here follows the official right of way line along the lane, but it is probably nicer to use the parallel path just inside the wood (in fact one could easily continue straight on to the junction of Fixby Road and Broomfield Road, saving a bit of effort). Although it is a dual carriageway, Fixby Road is easy to cross, with central refuges at both ends of the stretch we follow. We then turn right onto an unsignposted alleyway opposite a shop, which leads to a good well trodden field path to and across the M62 bridge....

Firstly, the bridge leading from Lilly Lane leads to a long and uneven staircase ending in a narrow tunnel (complete with shards of glass on the floor) underneath the railway, This felt somewhat unsafe; I would have turned around if it hadn't been the middle of the day. The path down from Water Lane along the Hebble Brook begins with another uneven staircase to a very overgrown and dingy path, which then leads to what seems to be a graffiti hotspot. There appears to be a path on the route going left from Siddal Top Lane which doesn't exist (although there is actually a turning nearby that leads to a dead end and a big pile of ash). I continued on, taking the first left to meet Coalpit Lane. From Coalpit Lane until Southowram, the 'path' was very difficult to determine, as it was basically just fields....

An easy to walk route, with a few shallow steps leading over a bridge, and a partly overgrown field where I imagine the ground could be very wet in inclement weather. Passing through Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve, where there is a cafe open on a Tuesday and Thursday and adjoining exceptionally clean toilets. Very peaceful walk along the canal....

A good walk that has enough parts that are off road to make it fun....

Route okay….a more interesting way through Upper Fell Greave at Fixby could be included....

A great route - really varied; goes through south bradford, the lovely village of wyke, cuts across countryside and then into Brighouse. One of the stiles in the countryside was a bit unsturdy and the path beside the river gets very muddy in winter, but all in all, a wonderful slow way!...

I found it to have an unnecessary climb out of Elland up a steep, busy A road - unnecessary because it is followed immediately by a descent, and it is easier just to walk round at town level, instead of going up and down....

It was so close to getting 5 stars, but the footpath behind the industrial estate at Liversedge was full of ancient litter, it took the edge off the shine, so a good 4 stars from me....
