Help connect Braunton

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Braunton’s Slow Ways.

Walk this route

This route is along the old railway line, mostly on the tarka trail and is flat, tarmacked and it's only problem is the volume of bike traffic. Even on a midweek midmorning there were so many bikes, almost none following the rules of the route. It felt like one of the least relaxing and enjoyable walks I have done for ages....

Emily Howells

Walk this route

This route has sections of walking along Old Barnstaple Road which is too busy to walk along safely, especially in the summer. There is also a short section along the A361 at Heddon Mill which is very dangerous, although this could be avoided by choosing the southern lane....

Walk this route

This route follows the old disused railway that is branded as the Tarka Trail locally & is a well surfaced tarmac track used by walkers, cyclists & runners. It mostly hugs closely the banks of the Taw Estuary & has beautiful views. As it nears Braunton it passes close to Chivenor Marine Base....
