Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Bratton’s Slow Ways.

This route was quite scenic and lovely in many places, with a nice mix of mostly fields, tracks, trails and small lanes. It crosses a number of fields, plowed and not, where the footpath hasn’t been cleared or cut, resulting in quite high grass in places, and very clumpy soil in others....

I completely agree with the previous reviews, the section down into the valley near Upton Cow Down is very steep in places - and I can talk from previous experience that it can get a little slippy, though it was fine today....

I walked wesbra one today, but looped back round and walked the road section that makes wesbra two different. While I enjoyed the footpath in wesbra one, I cannot disagree that this version is more accessible, and is well worth having in the database as an alternative....

Yes, it may not have dramatic vistas, but it has great views of the Westbury White Horse and of the wider Wiltshire countryside....

We only encountered a problem as we neared Eddington that the field in which the footpath crossed to Cowleaze Lane, ST 93430 55316 had been planted with a cereal crop and the footpath was not visible and this necessitated walking around the edge of the field to regain the footpath....

The Rose and Crown in Worton is ( as most pubs now ) closed weekdays.I recorded the route by GPS at 11.20 mi...
Brian
Undertook this route yesterday, and the first section was fine, generally being green lanes and quiet roads, thereafter the route took paths across fields towards Marston ( rather than green lanes ) which involved cows and stiles....

Brian added Bramar three, a new walk from Bratton to Market Lavington
Walk this routeI think the route is superior to Bramar one, simply because it stays in the lowlands, below the steep slope up Salisbury Hollow. If one feels the inclination of a steep slope, Bramar two is the better option as having ascended the steep slope, you stay up there enjoying the fine vistas Bramar one and three have mid point shop / pub facilities, whereas two has none...

Brian added Bramar two, a new walk from Bratton to Market Lavington
Walk this routeHaving undertaken Bramar two, my only feeling about this route is that why climb Salisbury Hollow, only to immediately then descend down Coulston Hollow? To save all that energy, there is a suitable alternative from Edington, through Coulston, and Erlestoke Golf Course, to Great Cheverell and on to Littleton Panell through the lowlands....
Brian
The extensive views from Imber Range Path are great, you may get to see the army live firing. There are a number of routes into and out of West Lavington, I thought this was the easiest. Having climbed Salisbury Hollow I think it is worth staying up on the top as long as possible....
Brian
I walked this last week, as I needed to shave the time off between Bratton and Devizes, and this route largely follows Bradev one, but cuts out fields and stiles, in favour of quiet country lanes It is 0.75 mi shorter than Bradev one There is the Rose and Crown pub in Worton, but has no weekday openings, evenings only Mon to Thurs, with Fr to Sun lunchtimes and evenings...
Brian
I have created an alternative route Wesbra two which follows the majority of the original route, but instead of bearing right up the pasture land with stiles, it continues along the Lower Westbury Road, joining the Trowbridge Bratton Road, and then largely following Wesbra one, slightly changing at Redlands. This route is then Wheelchair / Pushchair / and mobility scooter friendly...
Brian
This route is basically the same as Wesbra one, but cutting out the pasture with stiles. It is then suitable for those with mobility issues. It is the same length as Wesbra one...
Brian
An alternative ( no further ) is to continue along Capps Lane to the tee junction, turning right along the Trowbridge Rd, rejoining the route adjacent to the Recreational Ground....
Brian
I am aware an alternative route is possible through cropped fields to Upton Scudamore, but I recollect this has stiles and a railway line to cross....
Brian
In terms of interest, it's not very remarkable other than passing close to Westbury White Horse, but if you're looking for a relatively flat walking route from Westbury to Bratton this is the obvious way to go....
StephenGauntlett
Narrow parallel to golf course in Warminster and a steep valley between Field Barn and Upton Cow Down, neither sections suitable for wheelchair users (although there are longer bridle path alternatives marked on OS that could be friendlier for wheels.) Lovely for getting to the White Horse and Bratton Camp. Often windy but wild flowers are lovely in Spring/Summer....
AnnaSpanner
Quite pleasant and flat walk mixing open fields, tracks , tarmac paths and some B roads. See survey for full details. 3 stars as average for interest...
