Help connect Brandon
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Brandon’s Slow Ways.

Brandon to Thetford has lots of nice tracks through woodlands, both plantation and native with no paths blocked or unable to get through, recommended for both cyclists and walkers, very enjoyable. There was a campsite that was near the All Saints Church Santon which seemed to have water activities and looked quite fun, and a little further on there was a farm that seemed to have a cafe and host wedding functions etc but we didn't stop. There are some fallen obstacles like trees and a stream or two to navigate so if you are not confident on your feet you may not feel comfortable, though this section was one of my favourites due to the woodlands....

Ely to Brandon starts along the canal, we met some wonderful people living in a canal boat with art exhibition inside, very quirky and eccentric, the best type!...

For about 20 mins cycling/ 1 hour walking. Nice camping site on route next to river Ouse. As you’re coming into thetford there was a few obstacles — couple of trees down and walk across stream....

Route says to cut off at railway track but you can’t get through (not maintained) so we had to stay on A1101 till farthing drove and then turn off to sedge fen. From lakenheath it’s quite a busy road till just before the railway station where you turn right onto track....

Gorgeous canal and people, very interesting walk as the canal boats had character. Nice roads after that, but not great to walk really, lots of road after this to Lake heath ( a gorgeous but unkept footbridge along here but busted.) from Lake heath to Brandon was a gravelly track, quite bumpy but very pretty....

On the way through Brandon, there's a nice trail to the right behind a pub called the ram, right near the station and there's a really nice clear trail with clear waters and nice places to sit and camp, nice canal. It doesn't go very far though after crossing the river, nice canal boats swans and ducks....

This is a really lovely route, mostly through forest and fields, with a small section, towards the end, along the River Ouse....

However there is one small stretch along Little Ouse tributary which one has to cross the uneven surface using the provided chopped down branches. There are also numerous fallen trees and so only suitable for fit individuals....

That said there is a bit near Lakenheath on the B1112 that had no path but an ok verge to jump onto when the road was both way traffic. An alternative route would skip some of the road section into the village/town taking the dirt road/track and following the public footpath on the right of the river. The part of the route also after Shippea hill along the A road was a bit hairy too even though it followed the Hereward Way. That said there were a few road stretches where there was a path but a bit hidden/above on a bank which you might miss if you don't also have a map....
Truffle
it's a nice walk, but leaving thetford the route takes you a long a single track (and muddy in our case) route along the river bank....

This is a really nice wooded walk and route and I would repeat it and plan to. This is not a good route for anything other than a walker/runner though as there are some narrow riverside paths - some quite sloppy - hence the four star review. However, the narrow paths along the river follow this so it's not worth altering the route. On the riverside route are a few smaller trees across the path but only a minor step over but a bike would have to stop....
Truffle
From Hockwold to Lakenheath and then Sedge Fen to Lakenheath, the path is on dangerous roads. While it is straightforward to follow, it is not safe. I would not recommend this route....
