Help connect Blaina
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Blaina’s Slow Ways.

The only other access issue was the fence just past Chapelhouse (photo 3), but it is easy to cross over or under it (not really much of a fence). Photo 1 - Inhabitant of the wood just above Tir Watkin Photo 3 - Fence just above Chapelhouse...

The path from the top down towards Blaenavon is initially through bracken, and even at this time of year was still a little overgrown, but at least it was a definite path underneath. However, it may be a little difficult to pick out coming up from Blaenavon, even more so in the summer and early autumn, but worth spending a little time trying to find the right path rather than a yomp through the virgin bracken. If time allows, there is quite a bit of industrial heritage in the area, but off the direct route - including the Nantyglo Round Towers - the last fortified buildings constructed in Wales during the industrial revolution....

Walk this routeThe route line could be a little more accurate in places, but just follow the paths on your map. I'd 100% enjoy walking this route again and local people are fortunate to have it!...

I created and walked it in response to the issues Paul had on Nanbla One, although I think it would be great if someone checked that route again too. I'd certainly walk this route again....

Walk this routeParticularly in the woodland north of Abertillery where there are numerous tracks and trails in all directions, not all marked on the map and some of these are clearer than those that are marked....

Climbing of gates and fences was involved near Tir Watkin and Chaplehouse, which ruins an otherwise lovely route....

Heading out of Blaina up the steep street, there was no obvious path to the right, but I eventually came out on a track that then led back to the path. My path then headed straight for some private land, so I had to make a steep detour up the hill until I found what may have been a style to cross the fields. After crossing the main A467 road, a farm track takes you up through the fields on the lower slopes of the mountain and past some sheep holding pens, eventually leading to a small wood. Once on the next farm track, it`s more straight forward to find the way into Blaina. Coming from the Blaina direction, it was a little easier to find the way into the wood, but it`s still a jungle in there, with no discernible path through it - you just have to make your own....
