Best on offer with very limited off road routes available. Meeting points are good and road stretch has a pavement. What more is there to say?...

The first three miles of the route is a pavement alongside the old Great North Road (A638)....

At the edge of town there is a rough path down the edge of two fields that brings us to the pavement alongside the A631....

Note that the path marked on the OS map along the east bank of Main Drain no longer exists - cross the footbridge and use the good path on the west bank then head straight across the road. We follow a lane (which serves various sites that have lorries), then head west along Station Road and over the level crossing (expect to wait as this is a main line with a lot of fast trains!). There are pubs and shops in Ranskill (if you are not planning to use them you can avoid a bit of the main road pavement by using the path alongside the railway and Folly Nook Lane)....

We turn right, crossing the wide but quiet school access road to find the path that cuts the corner across the green space ahead, then follow Shrewsbury Road and Scrooby Road to the meeting point....

I haven't walked this one but I can't see any evidence that a right of way or permissive path exists between Ashbrook Grove and the A638. I suspect the only walkable routes are along the pavement of Tickhill Road or a longer detour via the junction north of Scrooby....

Also, there is a nice coffee stop at the Classic and Contemporary Coffee Shop which is at the caravan shop along the route to Bawtry....

I’ve given this three stars as it is a nice walk - except for high common lane. Cars wiz down here really quickly, but there isn’t a footpath. I kept having to jump up on to the grass verge which was high with weeds....

This route follows unofficial paths through campsites / fishing lakes near Retford Also not very direct...
