Help connect Attleborough

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Attleborough’s Slow Ways.

After crossing the A11, the pavement the other side was very overgrown, and I had to walk in the road to avoid overgrowing bushes but the pavement could soon be rejoined. After crossing the railway, it didn't really seem clear where I needed to walk, but could see the path clearing in between the trees opposite, but had to navigate across the field to get to it, which didn't seem to have a 'visible' path to take. After crossing the railway again, this did come out at Wymondham Recycling centre, there were quite a few cars here when I went past, and the road is narrow so care would need to be taken. The route was just over 8 miles, one thing to note was that between Attleborough and Wymondham there were no amenities/shops to speak of that I saw...

This section seemed to pass very quickly compared to the others, with small back lanes and the occasional footpath and train crossing, nothing exceptional here but just a pleasant steady route. I don't remember seeing any obstacles so possibly okay for those with accessibility needs The route is fine for joining Wymdomham to Attleborough...

Coming out of Thetford you follow some pretty busy roads with roundabouts but fairly quickly find yourself on small roads going through the countryside. I wonder if it's possible to go along the river and follow it out and then rejoin the same road instead of going along the busy roads?...

Good to cycle as quite quiet til east harling. Getting into snetterton going by the racecourse the route leading to this point was not a good walk but after was some lovely track through forest and abandoned wood yards and felt a bit creepy, but a bit of nettles....

It's still got a few roads in but they were generally quieter lanes - noting we walked this on a Saturday spring afternoon so traffic may vary. It could be more direct in places but some of the roads in the area are quite busy and it makes it less pleasant to walk. Four stars as it was still road routes but some stretches were quite lovely including cottages , wildlife and the railway....

Walk this route

Shortly after, you leave the road and join a footpath which takes you through some fields until Old Buckenham. After reaching Long Lane, you are suggested to make a right hand turn - there is a easily identifiable track, however the Slow Ways route suggests taking a left across a field to join some other path. (Green Lane) This brought me out at Heath Road, slightly further West of where the suggested route is. I turned left and walked along the road to rejoin the route. This next part is where I consider the biggest issue of the route to be - although there is a footpath marked from Heath Road, this is clearly not used often as it was not easy to follow, and this long stretch of walking along fields eventually reaches the perimeter of a farm - it was NOT clear which way I should be going, and I eventually arrived at a field marked with a 'bull in field' sign. The Slow Ways route suggests to then turn right and walk down Lodge Lane, however having checked Norfolk County council maps, this is indicated to be a PRIVATE road and should not be used. If you have reached Hall Road, the route suggests crossing directly over. The path then takes you into Winfarthing, and having left Winfarthing following a path, again the suggested route was quite tricky to follow. Although this was fine, when you reached far end of this path, it navigated round some stable fields, and the gate to rejoin the road had been padlocked and so had to be climbed over...
