Help connect Ashington

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Ashington’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

I walked this on a crisp late November morning from Ashington to Stakeford. I was conscious of the traffic beside me all the way but there was plenty of interest. Elli's review is great so I don't need to add anything further....

Walk this route

Entirely on pavements alongside a moderately busy road but with a pleasant crossing of the River Wansbeck and the opportunity to divert into Wansbeck Riverside Park on the north bank. Pavements are narrow in parts but passable on foot or bike....

Walk this route

I last walked this route in it’s entirety, from Ashington, in January 2022 and while it is an enjoyable and in my opinion ‘valid’ walk in it’s own right, it is probably my least recommended of the myriad routing options between Ashington and Morpeth....

Conxids

Walk this route

Keeping to right hand path , eventually emerging on the A1068. This 2nd route runs past Ellington caravan park and it is necessary to keep to the left hand in order to stick to the bridleway (it’s somewhat obscured by an old caravan so be careful to avoid an unnecessary detour round the caravan park). The only reason to do this, rather than follow the coastal path on the last stretch into Amble, Is possibly to hurry on in time to catch the x20 as it leaves Amble from the Fourways at 16.04. However if you have a little more time - say 6 instead of 5 hours it is possibly better to first walk east to Newbiggin and then North along the coastal path....
