Help connect Aberystwyth

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Aberystwyth’s Slow Ways.

It is challenging enough to be interesting, but it is all on the Wales coastal path so it’s difficult to get lost....

Walk this route

I walked the middle third of this walk from the Devil's Bridge direction, starting in Goginan and intending to get to Aberystwyth and do the other half later, but found it impenetrable. The wooded bank to the north-west of Goginan was overgrown with gorse and all sorts of other prickes, and as it was December I figured it wouldn't be any better in any other more overgrown month. I wonder if the previous reviewer walked the other direction and found it passable when going downhill.. I tried a couple of workarounds further north over the same bank, but the footpath was blocked by a barbed wire fence which I must mention to the local footpath officer.!...

Walk this route

Well, except that it often follows path hewn or worn right out of the rock, including the roman steps down to Mach, so it's not exactly new! I did it in three chunks, using the train - Aberystwyth to Borth, Borth to Dyfi Junction (a not-too-far detour off the path) and then Dyfi Junction to Mach....

Beautiful, easy to navigate Slow Way along the Ystwyth river valley, almost all via a well-signed, mostly off-road cycle path on flat or gently undulating ground with paved surfaces or easy gravel tracks....
