Description
Bit more of a direct route out of Ystrad and uses the footbridge at Gelligroes. Don't fancy crossing the roundabout much

15 Nov 2023Walked from Pontllanfraith to Ystrad Mynach. Easy to follow but a bit tiresome walking alongside a busy road for quite a way. The viaduct is impressive.

14 Jul 2022July 2022. Direction: Ystrad Mynach to Pontllanfraith.
This is a functional route in line with Slow Ways aims, and can be split into 3 sections. The first part through the streets of Ystrad Mynach and the Taff Vale Extension path, which is nice, easy and pleasant walking. The second section follows the busy A472 dual carriageway, initially with some separation on a dedicated tarmac cycle / footpath, but then after the Bryn Meadows roundabout, adjacent to the very noisy road. The final section follows the Tram Road from Gelligroes into Pontllanfraith, which is also good. The highlight of the walk is the Hengoed Viaduct - worth taking some time out to explore it from underneath from Hengoed station.

23 Jun 2021Practical route connecting Ystrad Mynach and Pontllanfraith. Nothing amazing, but you do get to cross the impressive Hengoed viaduct.
