Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Did this route on a lovely summers day in Jun 2024. It's a very direct and easy route to follow, which mostly travels along the B1172 from Wymondham to Norwich. Almost the entire journey is on a wide pavement shared with cyclists and there are many pretty houses and fields to look at along the way. All the busy crossings at Thickthorn roundabout have pedestrian crossings which makes it nice and safe. Only one section did not have a dedicated path or pavement, which is a section on Newmarket Road just after Thickthorn. However, this section only lasts 3-4 minutes and the road is a cul-de-sac so there are no cars and it seems very quiet and safe. My only other comment is that the route has an 'elbow' as you approach Rouen Road in Norwich, whereas there are more direct ways to approach the Riverside bridge fom this direction.
Highly recommended route which is picturesque, direct and safe.

Direct but adjacent to roads all the way, some very busy, and path often shared with cyclists. The short stretch along the old A11, from the Roundhouse Way roundabout to Thickthorn interchange, is a pretty typical dead-end road and not the most pleasant to walk solo. Crossing the slip roads at Thickthorn is enabled by pedestrian lights, and a new path behind the hedge by Kett's Oak has filled in a much needed gap on the route. For a nice walk I would certainly choose Wymnor two, for an efficient journey by bike then this one is fine. It does have the advantage of local services in Hethersett as a halfway point, including Church Farm Shop which has a cafe and is on the route (albeit across the road).

Mainly all road walking, fairly busy roads. Much on shared pedestrian/cycle path. Large interchange A11/A47, Thickthorn Roundabout, to negotiate. A direct route but not the most scenic. Would recommend Wymnor two in preference.
