27 Mar 2022This is a a well chosen route with a couple of reservations. Starting from Woodley it leads through a residential area to its border where a turn to Denmark Avenue and Waingels Road is advised. I'd suggest there is no harm is turning to the play space straight away and continue to the Lands End Lake through the grass field where walkers can join the route again. It is easy to overlook but the route doesn't go round the Heron on the Ford pub but turns right just before it. The rest of the route to Twyford requires mounting over stiles and going through narrow kissing gates. The route can be muddy and I'd recommend waiting for at least 10 days after the last rain. While approaching Twyford, note that the route doesn't go as far as the Waggon and Horses pub but turns to the town earlier via Silk Lane.

23 Mar 2022A walk of two halves. The first part starts from Woodley town centre and follows the fairly boring but very accessible suburban pavements of Woodley. The second part is greener in the more rural surroundings the Loddon valley, running through informal parks and nature reserves to Twyford Village centre. This second part can be muddy and parts can flood in very wet weather. One short section on is on a quiet country lane with no pavement at Landsend Lane.

21 Jul 2021Woodley to Twyford (Wootwy 1) review.
The walk starts at Woodley car park with bus stops and amenities at the nearby Woodley shopping precinct. The route out of Woodley is about a mile along paved suburban streets. Watch out for the easily overlooked footpath sign off Waingels Road (Photo 1).
A narrow footpath (Photo 2) leads to a pleasant bird sanctuary (Photo 3). A tarmacked lane then continues the route, ending at the ‘Heron on the Ford’ pub (Photo 4).
There is a ford warning for drivers (Photo 5). Walkers use a narrow bridge (Photo 6) and cross a field to a second bridge (Photo 7). As you can see, the water that day was high enough after recent rain to flood the lane. I had to wade through a few inches of water. I suggest you contact the ‘Heron on the Ford’ (Lands End Lane, Charvil) in advance if you are concerned about the water level; or pack wellies!
The route is then a rough footpath through The Lodden Nature Reserve. On my walk I found it very muddy and more suited to wellies than walking boots (Photo 8). A final wooded section and bridge over the river Lodden was drier (Photo 9).
The route ends at the ‘Waggon & Horses’ pub on Bath Road (Photo 10) and a short walk into Twyford.
